Was kind of hesitant adding Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete to the list, the screenshots didn't look all that good, but apparently they will come out with proper ones later and since anon from /jp/ added it, might as well.. judge it for yourself if it ever comes out.

Also, reminder that AX is next weekend and there will be a shitload of updates. The updates for next week won't be up until at least Monday because I will be going to AX. I should be going to 2 of the 3 panels (Mangagamer and Sekai), so stop by the shoutbox during these panels and I should be able to feed you live info of project announcements.

That's basically just a fancy way of saying there are two routes, a route where you establish a more traditional romance with the heroine, and a route where you make her your sex slave.

Well there go my ambitions to play the game then. Thanks for clarifying it though.

C'mon OMA, you should go to the dark side every now and then

I don't see a route where you make her your sex slave as extremly dark though. And I do go to the dark side every now and then because I started to play TnC a while ago... although I didn't touch it since half a year.

There is no story after Alternative. Only thing that's kind of close to a sequel is Altered Fable, but it's just some fandisc comedy nonsense that's not considered to be an actual sequel. Go figure.

All other VNs in the Muv Luv series are just spin-offs set in the same universe, but don't have that much to do with the Alternative's story. Characters from Alternative cameo in some of them, though.

I haven't played it, but isn't The Day After a story continuation of Unlimited, and not Alternative?

I don't think that's going to do so well with a good English fan translation already being out for such a long time. I'm surprised they didn't go with something else.

It's an interesting first choice for Degica, who haven't localized a VN before (they're the official western publisher for RPG Maker). But it might be a good way to get started and gain some early popularity with less risky property IF they use Amaterasu's fan translation. Herkz is making it sound like that's a sure thing, but he doesn't really know for sure either. Remember, people kickstarted Clannad and it brought in a boatload of money in the process, so don't discount a game just because it's been fan translated for a while. Muv Luv is really, really popular in the western VN scene, so this is probably a pretty good first pick for Degica.

Maybe they'll list all of the MLA Chronicles games or some other side games that aren't currently translated as stretch goals for further incentive. And who knows, if this does well, Schwarzesmarken seems like a likely followup.

Finally an official Muv Luv translation, eh? If they're using the pre-existing translation (which it sounds like they are), they'd be able to get a release relatively quickly. I suppose the real kicker is if they're able to get all the licensing fees on kickstarter. I imagine they have a good shot, but muv luv is less well known outside the VN community (unlike Clannad which has a very popular anime). Anywho, it'll be interesting and I'm excited to see another player enter the VN translation ring. There's certainly been an increasing interesting in bringing more VN and VN-like games to the west. It could be that Sekai project's explosive success in the past six months has convinced both Japanese companies and western localisation groups that VNs are worth officially translating.

I just hope Grisaia isn't a trend or we might not see much more huge VN localized.

Grisaia seem to have sold quite well, but nothing in comparison to shorter visual novel like Nekopara.

Gaokao who was released almost at the same time as Grisaia, have 7 times more review and that much more review mean that Gaokao most likely sold much more than Grisaia.

So if localizer think short visual novel are much more profitable, they will probably focus on localizing shorter visual novel and won't localize many long visual novel.

I think mangagamer is a perfect example of that, since nukige bring them more profit and require less work to localize they focus mostly on localizing nukige.

I have a feeling Grisaia bombed - at least in terms of short-term sales. Despite the huge amounts of backing through Kickstarter, one has to remember kickstarter funds do not equal total profit, unlike actual sales. If they're lucky, they might be breaking even.

Which is too bad, I wanted it to do better - but Steam is just too full of plebs wanting cheap fanservice. If Clannad's launch ends up with a lukewarm response the way Grisaia did, I think it'll be safe to say crowdfunding is a pipe dream.

This is the one major reason kickstarting VNs is a good idea; if you have most or all the upfront costs shown on the KS, then even if you don't sell a lot you won't be losing money. You won't be gaining much money either, but it's a lot better than the alternative.

Gaokao is much, much cheaper than Grisaia. That's the main reason why it has sold better. NekoPara has been on sale for several months before Grisaia and has had multiple major discounts. I think with such shaky, incomplete information, it's much too soon to call Grisaia a bomb.

But it's true, trying to sell a VN more expensive than $10 on Steam is probably going to be an uphill battle.

If only there was a kickstarter for Baldr Sky... why do people keep starting kickstarter projects that already have a translation?

Do these guys use the fan translation? Do they pay the original translator?
