  1. In the US, Congress is prohibited from passing retroactive laws by clause 3 of Article I, Section 9 of the United States Constitution; States by clause 1 of Article I, Section 10. In 1798, it was decided that these restrictions do not apply to civilian cases. In fact, retroactive laws have been primarily passed to target people who could be labeled as sex offendors. Currently, the consensus is that possession of Japanese illustrated pornographic material cannot be considered a sex offense, because depictions of sexual abuse, pedophilia, etc, are fictional and do not harm anyone. But the rulings could change at a whim.

The Six Strikes thing sounds imposing, but it's really harmless. It's set up to scare rather than to actually take action against anyone. The worst they can do is slow your internet down to a crawl.

Internet Service Providers retain logs of your activity. This previously was only for 5-18 months, but it is now federally required that ISPs keep your data for 5 years. They have full access to your information if they have any excuse to get you. If you are obsessed with your privacy, you are basically screwed. All your downloads, legal or otherwise, are automatically logged, and will be considered. If you're American, the rules are different in South America, Europe, and Asia, so if you're planning on moving, consider local internet laws.

  2. Good thing you like mecha though.

Call of Duty isn't itself necessarily bad, but the attitudes it attracts are a cesspool. I'm pretty sure in Ancient Rome they'd be the ones watching those inhumane gladiator matches. As they grow they'll just become cogs in society's machinery. They're not worth dwelling on.

  3. They stylize their logos to distinguish it from other shelf items. It's for the same underlying reason music bands use crazy names and album covers, and bottles of shampoo are mutating into increasingly weird looking dildos. There are studies that suggest this actually increases the number of sales.

Some people use ae ('ash') in their net handles because it calls the might of antiquity

  4. The Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate anime are notorious for leaving their audiences confused, and we can expect more of this in Robotics;Notes. But that doesn't mean one should avoid the richness of content the games skillfully present. Relative to the animus, the games are clearer at storytelling and are definitely worth checking out.

  5. Ah, egg white? Albumen is good in protein while low in fat. Wonderful ingredient for a low-fat diet or a lean muscle regiment. Helped me drop a few pounds.

I always enjoy eating (or the attempt of) new varieties of foods. If you've been to a trendy city, I'm the guy snacking on a cotoletta while pensively guarding an arrosticini stockpile.

  6. Oh ho, nice list, my good fellow. Just the books I'd hope to be read here. You and I are two peas in a pod, I'd say.

Yes, I read them printed backups when I have spare time. What's the name of the translator for your copy of Outlaws of the Marsh? Would you consider it the definitive English version?

IQ84 is a trilogy of books, but it reads swiftly as if it were only one novel. For Haruki Murakami, I most adore Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. Curious title, innovative book. I'd say it best captures the creative energies Murakami has become best known for.
