What's the issue with pic-related?

So i'm actually trying to get japonese characters to show, however I only get these symbols.

I installed the game by mounting a .mdf file, although I still have a .mds file.

I'm assuming you already have your computer on Japanese locale? Not sure if that would effect the characters showing up or not though. More than likely its a font problem, I'd imagine. Check the Readme file and see if it says anything about a specific font.

Thanks, I changed the language for non-unicode programs to Japanese, my first attempt with a jap vn .
