    Erica`s Autumn 2014 short anime list

    In case anyone else is curious: the head of the production team for Cross Ange is Mitsuo Fukuda, who directed Gundam SEED. Considering how fucking shit Gundam SEED was, it's clear that everything he touches is predestined to end up in a shithole. I wrote a quick summary of episode 1's events on another forum which I'll copy-paste real quick:

     

    [spoiler=ChexGuy's unorthodox Cross Ange ep 1 plot summary]Cold opening with your birdy motorcycle mech things flying and Nana Mizuki singing and HOLY SHIT DRAGONS. Some crazy angles going on here, fanservice lolololol. Also the birdy mech things transform into more humanoid forms that cover the otherwise exposed cockpit from their flying motorcycle mode.

    Various technobabble is thrown around and clearly Nana Mizuki's character, Ange, is some sort of weirdo because she's goddamn singing in combat and breaks off from the group and proceeds to take down a giant dragon by herself. She climbs out of her cockpit to shoot it with a rifle WHILE HER MECH IS ALSO SHOOTING IT. WHAT. That still got me even though it was in the PV from earlier this year.

     

    Nana Mizuki OP.

     

    Cut to motorcycle space lacrosse (I can't make this shit up) where long-haired Ange is apparently some sort of star player and she has a stupidly long name like Angelise Ikaruga Ginkei Radiant Silvergun R-Type Darius DoDonPachi (note: I may have forgotten part of her name and substituted something that sounds similar in turn). She saves a falling team mate and that costs her the game blah blah blah who the hell cares, apparently she's leaving for some coming-of-age thing that won't let her play space lacrosse anymore. Her older brother is everyone you hated from Code Geass and her little sister is Dio's little sister from Buddy Complex except her wheelchair floats.

     

    So basically in this world you've got some bullshit non-plot device called the Light of Mana that is apparently the evolution of humanity and people can use magic and shit to make shields and use telekinesis and whatever. People that cancel out the effects of this magic are called "Norma" and are shunned from society to an extreme, you see this when the princess talks down to a mother trying to shield her Norma baby from the authorities (spoiler: baby is taken away blah blah blah who cares).

     

    So at night where the princess and her mother have some crazy nightwear with gratuitous cleavage (I think I forgot to mention all the buttshots in the opening) and the princess is like OH MAN OUR MAGICAL SOCIETY IS SO PERFECT AND EQUAL WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT IF WE COULD EXTERMINATE (exact word used) THOSE SCUM OF THE EARTH NORMA TYPE PEOPLE IT WOULD BE EVEN BETTER and the mother doesn't say anything she just smiles and says YO YOU'RE A WOMAN NOW HAVE MY TOTALL BITCHIN' RING THAT'S A FAMILY HEIRLOOM

     

    Then the next day at the coming of age ceremony the princess steps into some chamber thing I dunno what the hell that thing does but she breaks it because SURPRISE SHE'S A NORMA WHOAAAAA SO SHOCKING. Her mother tries to ferry her away and is killed in the process oh noooooooo emotional breakdown. Oh yeah that teammate she saved earlier was like YOU LIED TO US YOU SUCK wow what a scumbag and the mother she talked down to earlier is in a dark room watching it all on TV with this crazy expression like HA YOU HAD IT COMING

     

    No longer a princess because she's the scum of the earth or some shit the heroine is taken to Alcatraz or Azkaban or Nova Prospekt or something. They take all her stuff including her mother's bitchin' ring because apparently it hasn't sunk in that YOUR MOTHER IS DEAD AND IT'S THE FIRST EPISODE GET REKT. So you've got some glasses nurse that can use magical glowy hands but she's with some military chick who is also a Norma. So because our heroine is still in shock she's all I'M ROYALTY FUK OFF I'LL HOOK U IN THE GABBER m8 SWARE ON ME MUM and they're like LOL YOUR MUM'S DEAD WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR MAGICAL GLOWY HANDS TO TAKE YOUR PRECIOUS RING BACK. Surprise, it doesn't work so Norma military chick literally kicks the shit out of heroine and proceeds to (completely necessary) cut open her clothes with her sword and bend her over a table while nurse lady uses magical glowy shit to restrain her.

     

    Military chick goes YOU'RE NOT A PRINCESS ANYMORE, YOU ARE NOW ange HENCE THE TITLE

     

    Also butt shot behind cover and then one last completely necessary but slightly censored scene of former princess' undergarments being torn off. Then implied sodomy because "it's a medical procedure" also rape symbolism.

     

    Then it cuts to the ED with some lesbian harem thing where three characters are naked in a bedroom for no reason SURPRISE ONE FINAL SHOT OF ANGE LYING DOWN WITH A BLOODY BLANKET AND TEARS STREAMING OUT OF HER BUG-EYED TERRIFIED EXPRESSION BECAUSE NOT ENOUGH RAPE SYMBOLISM then the rest of the ED and the episode preview.

     

     

    I'd also like to point out the already mediocre animation quality combined with the fact that Nana Mizuki and Minori Chihara have voice roles (the former being the main character). Name the last show with Minori Chihara in it that wasn't by KyoAni that had good animation. owait you can't. This show is going to have shit production value and the only thing you'll watch it for is lesbian femdom almost-rape.

     

    On the other hand, G-Reco is Yoshiyuki Tomino's first major Gundam project since he directed Turn A back in 1999. Everything he does has a relatively slow start but usually ends up being good (a notable exception being Brain Powerd which flat out makes zero fucking sense). Sunrise is clearly banking on that and Gundam Build Fighters TRY, which seems to have the most budget out of all three shows they're airing this season. G-Reco's animation style is noticeably old-school and probably requires less budget as a result.

    I started building that non-bandai model and...well, it's a completely different dimension from Bandai models. The parts are smaller, they don't just fit together and need glue/cement, and the kit would look pretty crap straight out of the box so I'll need to paint it. I've been cementing the head together.

    On a final note Grisia is prolly one of the few VNs I've played that had blatantly under age heroines and didn't bother trying to hide being a disclaimer saying otherwise. The flashbacks in Sachi's route take place around her 9th (or was it 10th?) birthday. They avoid giving any specific dates in those flashbacks but they overlap with Amane's diary of doom which DOES list a specific year. That said if Makina and Sachi are the same age they are at BEST 17 in the present day.

     

    you know the age of consent in japan is like 13 or some shit, right?
