Ripping the sex scenes out damages the story beyond repair and then you have to rewrite it and then you have ruined the story just so you can. No story like these eroge vns have should ever ever be damaged like that.

if you mean how moenovel ripped not only the H scenes but all mentioning of dirty jokes and sex innuendo dialogues off If My Heart Had Wings , then i fully agree , but definitely not on just H scenes , 98.9% of them consist only in fanservicing and they advance nothing to the plot.

You are wrong.

It damages the story whenever you alter it, no matter how small the alteration is. Sure you could replace the sex scenes with other lovey dovey romantic scenes or just say things like "they made love by the candlelight" or "they had hot passionate sex" or they could replace the dirty jokes with something milder but it alters the story, it changes it, maybe you found a way so it does not affect the plot but still it is damaged, it is not the same story anymore.

Maybe you are a good storyteller or writer and you find a way to make the story hold the audience's attention and make it seem like the sex scenes and dirty jokes were never there.

It is not the same story, you have altered it to suit your desires for a story, you have damaged it. Do i believe every Visual Novel needs sex scenes? No. However you may as well have written your own story if you are going to rewrite it in places that you do not approve of on that level or maybe (i know this is a unheard of idea) but maybe you find an all-ages one you like and translate it correctly rather than alter/damage ones with sexual parts.

If you are talking about the mosaic Japan does then i would like the scenes to be uncensored, i mean, if i had a choice. However i do not much mind it anymore. i remember it being somewhat annoying when i first saw the censoring that Japan does in their VNs to deal with their laws. It is not that bad though compared to what our countries translation companies do to the VNs.

Oh, but we've forgotten the most important point. If eroge were popular in the west, sites like erogedownload and downloadani would be shut down, and then it's back to paying a month's wages for a single game.

darn that is a pretty good point actually, though I would argue about this site being shut down as I think they are still operating within the law but its a gray area. There would be more regulation on our end however, so it would definitely be harder to operate openly. My original opinion still stands strong for me though. Sites like this one might have to change their current business model and structure but if they are willing to change and they have good people it is not necessarily a death sentence.

The illegal part of what we are doing is that we are sharing the games with each other. The translation patches are not technically illegal because they need the game already working to make them work, just share those and it would be technically legal.

the biggest thing i hate is thinking that i may see the true story in quite a few visual novels because they were done by western companies and while i have tried to learn the japanese language my level is reduced to a few spoken words, a very basic conversation, and nowhere near the level needed to play a game in real-time. Written words are way beyond me if i do not want to spend alot of time on a paragraph.

Yes, they cannot afford to license a title just to keep fantranslators off of it.

Also some fantranslators would not care and if they ever did it after a fantranslator had gone alot of the way i would just expect them to continue, i would hope they would anyway.

Fantranslation is just better just like fansubbing is, even if we do have to go with some things censored, sometimes it is better that way. the western civilization and their companies just butcher too much of all the stories and/or tear a bit of the story out and will never translate some.

i think and if i am wrong i would love to be corrected but i think the only hentai game that was translated and released correctly by a western company was Princess Maker 2 and that was abandoned, i do not even know how it got out to us.

Here is the PERFECT example of why you dont need a sex scene. In Ever17 they have sex it says on the screen and we the reader can understand. They dont need to show us anything and we can understand that and they are in love. This shows people are capable of showing love and hinting at sex without even showing it.

Ever17 is not as you have seen even more than the other translated to English eroge / visual novels / games produced by companies.

Hirameki International which brought the western world Exodus, Ever17, Ai Yori Aoshi, and others was a company that brought hentai-games without the hentai. They tore out the sex scenes and rewrote it a little so we presumedly could not tell, so it was just romantic, so that any sexual stuff was suggestive. They were proud of the fact that they brought us H-games without the H, proud that they butchered the games in a way other than the norm.

If they did not have sexual stuff, if they ripped it out and then rewrote those parts then they did not have to up the age of characters in the stories, did not have to change it so they are all 18 and over. This way it could be bought by teens.

Now it is true that some visual novels are written without sex and it is true that not every story has to have it. However to just remove it is not right. In some stories, in alot of them, the sex scenes are right to have. Sex is natural to have in quite a few stories, the story would be destroyed without it without some inventive rewrites.

It boggles the mind that the western civilization will uncensor pussies, cocks, assholes, absolutely loves these stories, but are so squeamish about age that they will make everyone 18 and over butchering stories as need be, and if they know they cannot do that like with games like Kawakaburi no Cherry will just not release it to us. They are able to tolerate rape scenes but will alter them so that tears are removed. The western civilization is so incredibly repressed that they have made so many harmless things so illegal. Lolicon/Shotacon is harmless, a fetish we enjoy, and it harms nobody, and allows us to play through some of our fantasies without harming any child at all.

For me it was english version of Princess Maker 2. i must have spent countless hours on that game trying to get all the routes i wanted to see.

I had lots of fun and it led me into getting and enjoying a lot of the games, on both the light and dark side.
