  1. Ask a Japanese! This is a good thread.

I have a question, what do you think about adoption? I heard from some dude in tumblr i think, that in the past, japanese people really care about bloodline and think very little about adoption. Is it true?

personally, I have no problem with adoption.

but yes as you think, there are very few chance kids from orphanage can find home in japan.

but they say child abuse in foster home is common in other countries like US.

    bloodline thing may be related.

btw i Love you icon of Yokoshima from GS mikami.

  2. thanks for answering this for me it helps explain some things i was wondering about . Japan seems very unique, even more so from my western perspective than say China! I think maybe its because of isolation that things are adapted and transformed to 'japanese', like the writing style and business culture but you would know more than I.

    you are welcome!

Please ask me whenever you have something to know!

  3. What are some of your favorite Anime,Visual Novels,Dramas,Manga?

here is my favorite BGM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM_bvwQqmv0

  4. hmmm how common is it for people to watch anime? Like here where I live and at my age (19) everyone knows and watches GoT and I was wondering what do people watch in Japan? Is anime a small or medium group or do most people watch anime? Idk if this is been asked already but I wanted to ask a question any way! Awesome thread Hiro, thank you.

    what is GoT?

almost every one watch Sazae-san https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn6PdaklzOs

and animes of studio Ghibli (spirited away, laputa the castle in the sky etc)

and ofcourse One piece, Dragon ball too.

most of young girls watch lovelive!

because of its game version for smart phone.

    sorry for my late answer.

    my notification alarm didnt work.

    hope my answer helps!

  5. It can be both.

He is basically a hero but he is called "6th daemon".

They say there are the ”the six daemons"in buddhism hell

and 6th one is the strongest.something like the Satan. hare is image of the 6th daemon

    他化自在天 – Takejijaiten | ç•°å½¢ 棺 - The Monster Casket

These are some his daemonic behavior.

-Killed all of women lived in his castle because some of them went to sight seeing while he was out of castle.

-killed all of buddhists in his region to take control.

    -

  6. Japanese or not,you get weak when you are sick right?

There is no point that the author/scriptwriter tells you "hey, this character gets cold. but he/she is completely OK"

Everytime a character gets cold, it is supposed to be something unusual.

Not every one of your birthday is dramatic.

but if there is birthday on manga or anime, it is suppossed to be dramatic.

so yeah that must be exaggerated.

  7. -Do girls refer themselves as 僕?

I never met such a girl in person.

I saw some on the web.

But its common in Anime, manga, or lyrics.

    - Why some vocaloid/utaite songs makes no sense/or is hard for explain?

I think they are intentionally ignoring grammar.

Because most of lyrics of super hit songs dosent make sense at all.

    Thats a collage of words.

So you can join building world of that song on youtube comment section.

    like:

"I think this is the song about heart-breaking""No, I dont think so"

    >I'm saying now about songs like "Idola no circus"

I think the message of this song is relatively clear.

Its based on the novel called "The Spider's Thread" written by R.Akutagawa the most famous novelist in Japan.

    A thief went to hell.

But the Buddha have mercy for him because the thief saved a spider's life when he was alived.

The buddha think he is not completely bad guy.

The buddha ordered the spider to help him and bring him to heaven.

THe spider tries to pull up the thief with thread.

    The thief grab the thread.

But other guys in hell try to grab the thread too.

    The thief kicks them off.

That is the final straw on camels back for buddha. The buddha cut the thread and forsake the thief.

    anime of that story.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpIBmiPtMgc

So. maybe the author of this song tries to insist that "helping hands from others are temporally and actually not helping me" i guess.

As you see now. we are discussing about this song.

So it helps to the song going viral.;)

    >- Should non-japanese people use honorifics when they are writing to japanese people in the internet?

    No you don't need to.

Nobody gets angry or embarassed by being called without honorifics if you are non-japanese.

    > how old are you

    Im 30 years old.

  8. >How would this sentence look in men speech then?

    hmm...

Honestly, If grown man said "お兄"... its creepy.

Elementary school boy will be OK with saying it.

    If grown man said it,

Its like 30 years old gentleman sees a fancy tea cup and he says "OMG! cute!!!!"

Some male from Kansai area(which is including Osaka city, the second biggest city in Japan) says "お兄" . Its dialect.

Kansai dialect sounds more soft than standard Japanese language which is Tokyo dialect.

But its still strange if grown man use this expression.

    Sounds like ladyboy.

    "おにいさん"”おにいちゃん””あにき”

    Those are more appropriate.

    >meaning of "w"

It can be both provocation and pure expression of joy.

    (笑)= (w)arai = I'm laughing

    For example.

そうだね(笑) = "yeah, you are right lol"

This kind of expression is very very very old.

At the very early age of internet, it was normal expression of pure happiness.

But in 90s, people started to use this old meme as provocation.

    By intentionally using out-of-dated expression,

they means "Look, I'm not serious. I'm just trolling" something like that.

    But after 2010.

Young generation on twitter who dosent know about the history of "(笑)" or "w" consider this expression...kind of "cool" meme.

So especially young girls use this a lot as pure expression of happiness.

I texted with my online game freind who is teenage girl. she often sends me like:

    そうだね (笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)(笑)

    or

    そうだねwwwwwwwwwwww

I thought "why she is always bitching?" But I eventually realized its normal expression for them.

Language of young generation become standard language.

Hence more and more matured people use this as normal expression.

So...It can be both! provocation and joy.

    >貴様

Yeah. basically, it is translated as "you fool"or "you bastard"

This kanji means "Mr.your highness" Its very polite expressions.

But we use this as "you bastard" nowadays.

    Why?

    They say Samurais started this.

When they talked to their friend "Hey, Mr.your-highness!"

Yes they were just joking. But people started to use this word as expression between close friends.

You talk roughly when you speak to close friend, right?

Hence In movies, in dramas, many passionate protagonists shouts to his close friend "おい(hey)!貴様!"

And young people who don't know where this word came from think "貴様 must be meaning you bastard or something"

Hence people use this as expression of hate.

  9. >I've seen an article that stated that Japanese tend to have the most negative image about foreigners, especially in the countryside. I don't have any source for this, though.

Never mind! People can say anything in the web.

    >Did you mean that the average working time is for 5 days (=31,25 hours a week)

    Weekends are included.

    >Japanese tea smells terrible but tastes good? (I drank some in a local Asian restaurant and that's my opinion about it.)

Next time, try the tea from Shizu-oka area.

    That has the best smell/taste.

As you guess,It has the highest price though.

I dont believe Asian restaurant catered good one made in Japan to you.

When I traveled to Canton,China. Which is the homeland of green tea btw.

I drank tons of green teas there.

Awesome tea was awesome. Bad tea was bad.

    >Sake

I guess you dont like sweet taste right?

Rice wine is very sweet. Because rice wine is made from Japanese rice. And good Japanese rice has natural sweet taste.

But as you guess, its hard to get and expensive.

Hence cheap ones made in outside Japan have sugar or artificial sweetener in it.

In order to imitate sweet taste of good rice.

    But they cant.of course not.

Next time, make sure buy the pure sake made in Japan. Which means It has no sugar or any other artificial additives in it.

As you guess, its expensive. Just like any other liquors.

If you have chance, try Shōchū which is distilled spirits.

But again, make sure it is made in Japan and no artificial thing in it.

  10. >二冊の本

    >三匹の鼠

    >Am I doing it properly?

    yes you are.

    >And what about termination -たち?

    >It mean "and others", right?

Yes.You can use たち only when you are talking about human or animals.

But female tend to use たち when they are talking about an inorganic substance.

    For example.

    木たち woods

    イスたち chairs

    本たち books

I feel its strange to use たち when you are talking about....objects.

But more and more females use this kind of expression nowadays.

    >Like:

    >"お兄 たちがどうする、かな?" - "What does my brother(brothers/and others) doing?"

Its like "Im not sure what my brothers are going to do(or say)"

She (the speaker) cares about the opinion of brothers.

    >Or this one is written properly?: "どうするお兄たち、かな?"

Its little bit strange but it is still correct in terms of grammar.

  11. How many hours an average Japanese person works weekly?

What kind of weather there is in Tokyo during summer months (June-August)?

Is it true that Japan is the most racist country in the world? (I'm asking this totally seriously)

Is it true that most(?) Japanese women quit their jobs and start doing nothing but housewife stuff after marriage?

And the most important question in this thread: why uncensored porn is illegal in Japan? I've seen so much bizarre stuff in manga etc. that I just can't understand why showing genitals is such a taboo.

    1 Average is 375 minutes a day.

2 It is hot and rainy in Tokyo. And you get several typhoon.Dont forget your umbrella if you go there:)

3 Who told you "Japanese is racist" thing to you? He/she must be the most racistest person on this planet.

4 No its not true. the half of married women is working.so its 50:50.

5 First of all, any kind of porn is banned in Japan.

But there are many AV videos in Japan.

Why? because AV is not a porn!

AV companies insists that AV is a general movie(film) product which accidentally has many sex scene.

hence we call the ladies in AV as "AV actress" or "Sexy actress"

They are not even porn star in our law!

Because, our law of freedom of expression define "porn"as "something with exposed genitals"

    No genitals no porn.

summarizing the above, genitals are not banned in porn. Its the PORN ITSELF which is banned.

Its a Loophole of law thing.

They cannot ban sexy scene in Manga or Anime.

Cuz One piece, Dragon ball, Naruto. They all have sexy scenes in them.

If they ban the Hentai scene in Manga or Anime.

Automatically, they have to ban OP, DB, Naruto. That aint gonna happen.

  12. i heard japan's constitution is being changed to allow for more aggressive military action. thoughts?

we fetch what we are suppose to have.

Obama said all of US army outside USA will go home soon.

So do US army inside Japan.

We will defend ourself by ourselves.

Please see the picture of newspaper I uploaded on this thread.

Its headline says "China is constructing natural gas plant INSIDE Japanese territory"

Theres no point starting war for a piece of resources.

But theres no point being a sandbag either.

You saw what happened to Ukraine, right?

    All nation have self-defense right.

    Dont misunderstand me.

I have many Chinese friend and I love China!

Chinese people and Chinese government are completely different things.

I never ever mix those two.

    Dont worry! we dont fight!

Eroge brothers from China will stop Chinese government!haha;)

  13. whats the deal with the emperor? is he found in public appearances often?

    Not often.

    The emperor is pretty old.

You can see him on New Year's Day.

His speech on New Year's Day is pretty big event in Japan.

  14. any remnants of the ikko ikki around? whats the variation in religion? Do many practice cultural Buddhist rites if they are not buddhist?

    No remnants aroud here.

Why are you interested in Ikko Ikki?

    -religious

    We have 120 million population.

    According to the national census(2015)

    Shinto 107 million.

    Buddhist 89 million.

    Christian 3 million.

    etc 10 million.

As you noticed, grand total is over actual population.lol

Most of people join more than 2 religion at the same time!

They have Shinto style wedding but their funerals are Buddhism style.

BUT when government investigater ask Japanese people "are you consider yourself as religious person?"

80 percent of them said "NO"

....maybe you cant understand us.I cant either lol.

Shinto is Japanese old...religion kind of thing.

But I think its more like aminism thing than monotheism.

Because we have countless gods in Shinto.

Ama-terasu the Goddess of the sun.(Do you know Amaterasu the dog from PS2 game "Okami"? she is the one)

Susano-o the God of wind and steel.

    etc etc...

    Similar to Greece mythology.

Incidentally, the emperor is the highest priest of Shinto.

And Reimu from "Toho project"is a shrine maiden of Shinto.

Many characters from Eroge or anime or Manga is related to Shinto.
