  1. I've watched a couple videos and I think I have a basic idea of what I need to do. Is eroge written in kanji or should I just learn all 3 writing styles?

Katakana is rarely used since it's reserved for foreign words, but kanji and hiragana are always used for both vns and... well, everything.

Some texts have furigana that's a little help to read kanjis which consist of small hiragana characters above/next to the kanji, like when it says 山 you'll see やま next/above it so you know it's "yama" (mountain), this makes it very easy to learn kanji as well btw.

  2. what do you think the best way to learn Japanese is?

I used a Ds game (yes, for real) called My Japanese coach which was a pretty good introduction to the language (game I didn't finished because of reasons), I also used some podcasts from NHK World and I've got a few japanese friends who help me with the questions that eventually arise, so far I can't just say I'm good at it but I can at the very least understand both oral and written japanese.

So yeah, just take something you like (reading, videogames, videos, audio) and search for something you can learn the language with it, as long as you keep on involving yourself with the language and searching for new material you'll eventually reach a very nice level, to become a pro you might want to undergo some courses or something like that though.

  3. How about learning japanese?, figuring your way around a auto translator will let you read a few novels but learning japanese will help you a lot trough your life (I mean, you'll be able to add a extra language to your resume!).

Not to mention it's a very fun language to learn, it's a pain in the ass sometimes but it's worth the try.

  4. Majikoi A-2 is coming alone nicely

On a side note, anyone watched the 5 episode OVA for Planetarian? How does it compare to the VN? Will I get the same or similar experience if I just watch the anime and not play the VN?

I don't know if it's just me but I felt a lot of things watching the VN that I'm sure I wouldn't have experienced by watching a anime, it would ruin the awesome experience; I've watched several sad animes by now but no one of them managed get me down so much as that novel, if you get the chance you should by all means play the novel instead, as Ivan said it's very short.

And after reading it you should watch the "after story" which was cut off the game

, it managed to move me to tears which isn't something any other story has been able to do so far.
  5. I'm on the same boat, I can't find myself hooked up to a game as I did in the past.

Anyways, while I get over this I'm playing the MOBA Smite which is oh so much fun, also I'm learning how 2 draw (which you can see the results in my avatar).

I'm sure I'll get addicted again when TES6 gets revealed, or when a new legend of Zelda comes up. even though I don't like the nx so far

  6. Boys, you can find the game here, unfortunately there's no english translation yet (ence why you won't find it in this site), links are working atm so get it while it's hot.

Did everything you said and this is what keeps happening ]

I'm so very sory i wasn't able to answer, some shit happened and i had to rise and save the world from total destruction which kept me busy, i'm trying to find out what the freak is that error message and google doesn't feels like helping at all, the message says "arimasen" at the end so most likely it can't find something, you sure you patched it propperly? (copied everything inside some "crack" folder on the dvd and pasted it on the game's diectory?)

  7. P.s. How far am I in the game right now?

You're relatively close to the end.

Yes i know what you mean, Marimo's death was so traumatic i spent 3 weeks alone crying on a corner (not true... maybe), and when i managed to pull myself together to start reading the novel again they just go and... kill her again...

Sumika's stuff wasn't as bad tho, i kinda expected something like that, but Marimo's... i still cry sometimes when i remember such things.... waaa....

No really, this game hits so hard because you get really close to the characters in extra and unlimited (at least that's how i felt it, i'm sure some people just ctrl skipped the whole novel), so far i haven't felt something like this in any other novel, there are some close to it tho like Ever17 and Planetarian but still MuvLuv is by far my favorite.

I'm actually thinking about reading it again to tie loose ends and all that, but knowing what will happen to Marimo will just don't let me.

  8. Hold on, there are a few pop ups here and there yes, you do close them right?

If a pop up appears you just close it and go back to the previous page to continue with the download, i'm saying because that url you're trying to access is not downloadani.me. (it's name is 103.1.138.137.unknown.com.sg and is something hosted in Singapore... seems legit).

  9. That is not malware of any kind (at least is not informing you of any real malware), the page is a scam so don't worry about it.

I don't know if pressing the button i just marked will close it w/o popping another window, hopefuly it will, if it does opens another window feel free to close it, don't pay mind to the BS it says.

Btw what browser are you using?, there's a extension on Chrome to block adds which is really useful preventing stuff like this, also i just found (and installed) one that blocks dialogue boxes like the one you're seeing, you could to give it a try.

  10. Yes there's some site that pops-up everytime you press free, but i haven't run into any problem by just closing it and pressing free again.

Just tried it with some really old vn (i didn't know there was a vocaloid vn btw), downloaded perfectly fine.

If you're still having issues you could you show us a screenshot of that security warning.

  11. You think your job sucks? Let me tell you about the people I work with.

First, there's this supermodel wanna-be chick. Ok, I'll admit, she's pretty hot, but damn she is completely useless. The girl is constantly fixing her hair or putting on her makeup. She is extremely self centered and never considers the needs of anyone other than herself. She is dumber than a box of rocks and I find it surprising that she has enough brain power to breathe.

The next chick is exactly the opposite- she might even be one of the smartest girls on the planet. She has endless career opportunities but she's still here with us. She is a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. I doubt she even showers, much less shaves her "womanly" parts. I think she might be a lesbian, because every time we drive past the hardware store she moans like a cat in heat.

But the jewel of the crowd has got to be the fucking stoner. And this guy is more than just your average pothead. The guy is baked before he comes to work, after work, and even during work. He probably hasn't been sober any time in the last 10 years, and he's only 22. He dresses like a beatnik throwback from the 1960's, and, to make things worse, brings his fucking giant dog to work. Every fucking day I have to look at this huge Great Dane walking around half stoned from the second-hand smoke. Hell, sometimes I even think it's trying to talk with its constant bellowing. Also, both of them are constantly hungry, requiring multiple stops to McDonald's and Burger King every single fucking day.

Anyways, I drive these fucktards around in my van and we solve mysteries and shit.

Taken from here, randomly found it and felt like sharing it.

  12. Wat

You shouldn't need anything to download from mega, there's this little permision window that pops up once in a while "MEGA want to download something here {Accept} {Decline}" or something of the sort, but other than that is mere bs.

Or... are you using Firefox or IE?.

  13. Yep, it's a little confusing the first time.

    But:

If you want to read Higurashi, and want to use the patches available for it, then get this pack I made:

Higurashi - When They Cry COMPLETE

All arcs (1-8), all patches, working.

Fully updated as of - 20th of February 2013.

    Download (MEGA)

    Check the readme.

You get all of the Higurashi main story in this pack, plus the patches. You obviously start reading the 1-4 arcs, then move on to 5, 6, 7 and 8.

"What patches?" you ask... it's these ones -> Tweaking Higurashi Wiki

A bunch of stuff that fixes/tweaks Higurashi. My pack contains all of it except the translation one, since it only "fixes" arcs 1-4 and I'm not even sure yet if it's better than the original translation. It could ruin the feels of the text since I know for a fact that it does NOT just simply fix spelling/missing words. I'd advice not to use it to be honest. Even if you do use it, you'll get the original translation/editing in the 5-8 arcs regardless, so.

The PS2 art patches are optional, but the sound and music patches are mandatory. Anyway, my pack includes the entire Higurashi main story and all the patches available for it except the translation one.

When you download that MEGA link you'll get this:

    Untitled.png

There's a .exe in each folder, you just play them in the correct order and that's all.

There's a copy-paste thing you gotta do before playing for the first time, but it's all explained in the readme.
