  1. Wow, those Rose Gun Days translators aren't fucking around, eh?
  2. Pretty cool about MG picking up Tick! Tack! I just started playing Shuffle so it's good news to know I won't have to wait too long before playing its first sequel. I was still kinda wishing it'd be DC3 but I really don't think they're ever going to pick that up.
  3. Gerard, is there some reason you continue to treat me as if I killed your puppy, or did it just somehow end up getting its head stuck up your ass? You can, in fact, convey the same meanings as the original game using machine translators, you're obviously just too fucking dumb to do it yourself and feel the need to shit on anyone who can. I'm going to go ahead and ignore your pathetic inferiority issues now.
  4. ulti, I don't even know what a Fuwa is... I'm sure there are at least a couple projects that are machine translated and you wouldn't even know the difference unless you were fluent in Japanese AND had played the originals to compare with. Most of us are happy enough to play a game that we would otherwise never get to, whether it was done by a fluently bilingual person or not. Being able to translate via machine translation also shows you have really good comprehension skills, and I'm very grateful to anyone who would dedicate their time and patience to making games available to new crowds.
  5. ulti, if you're not a native English speaker, then why is it you care so much about the "legitimacy" or whatever of a translation project? Can you even tell the difference between a good translation and a hack job? I'm not trying to insult you the way you obviously are to me, I honestly want to know. I'll give you my reasoning: MG did an official translation of Da Capo 1, for instance, and it was pretty awful itself. Not so bad that I couldn't get through it, but from what I've seen Aearu write on the Visual Aer blog, I'm expecting her DC3 to be much more readable than MG's DC1 was. And yes,
  6. She speaks better English than you. And the new site is far from crappy. If you can do better, I'd love eat my "noob" words.
  7. Here's a nice little update that has not been talked about yet: Da Capo III (being translated by Aearu) has reached the 10% mark using annot player. I'm excited to see how that turns out!
  8. Ah, I see. That's really good to know. My plan before was just to keep the punctuation as close as possible and hope that the scripts followed a sorta linear path (as hard as that would be for me to find it all, it'd probably have been impossible for a programmer to have found his way through). Consider my ass saved lol. Anyways, just about done my playthrough, and then I'll be ready to really crack down on this thing. I have the prologue all finished, which was done as a test run. Now I'll go back and add the Japanese text in as well. Here's hoping the rest goes just as smoothly.
  9. Thx, strom. I think I'll take your advice and add the jap text right above the english text in my word docs. That way, if the programmer wants to do it himself, he has the option. And if not, it'll be much easier for me to keep track of my place. It's funny you mention that, Illyriom. Initially I was going to do that instead, and release it on gamefaqs or something. I'll probably just keep that as a last resort, but you're right that it's better than nothing.
  10. Yeah, I actually have a hacker in mind already. I'ma gonna at least try to make a patch before resorting to other methods, but it doesn't sound like it'll be the hardest thing in the world. As long as I'm able to insert the text myself.
  11. Haha, thx shizzrig, I hope you're not taking the tayutama thing to heart though (sorry, onemanarmy, I guess the dream is dead lol). I hope this whole thing does work out for me though, and that I'll go on to translate a good many games and VNs. We'll see where this goes. I do have my cousin willing to help me out, and she knows a good bit of Japanese herself (goodbye, kanji problems). Ryu, that's an excellent idea! I've tried to use Fraps before with kinda bad results (I've made many RPGMaker games that I would love to show off and get some more downloads for), but hopefully I'll get it to
  12. So keeping similar sentence structure is a good idea after all. Okay, I'll keep doing what I've started and wait to contact a programmer when I know I'm 100% going to finish it. Thanks!
  13. Hypothetically speaking, you have a game that you're interested in translating. You know all the route specific info, and everything that needs translating. You're not a programmer though, and you can't rip the scripts to do your translation. Nor do you want to try, for fear of fucking up the VN's files. So, you decide to write out the translation in a word document, exploring all possible routes and everything you need to in a very organized way. When all is said and done, you have an organized bunch of word docs with every piece of translated dialogue in the VN. Only then are you sma
  14. I personally love the challenge of trying to interpret what's being said. I was an English Major, so that kind of thing was always fun for me anyway. With this, it's all about finding context. I know I'm never going to learn Japanese, so that's out of the question. As far as waiting for someone to translate it, depending on the game, it may never happen. I believe with Memories Off especially, it'll forever remain untranslated. In a case like that, I think the program is great! I'm able to understand exactly what is happening as the plot progresses, even though I'm moving at a considerably
  15. I only just started getting into VNs recently, so my answer is very noobish. But I really liked Higurashi, despite the terrible translation, and Sakura Taisen 1 and 2 were amazing, although they are RPG/VN hybrids.
  16. Da Capo III Narcissu 3 Tick! Tack! Memories Off series Robots;Notes
  17. I'm not playing any eroge, exactly, but I am playing 3 VNs. -Never7 (waited forever to be able to play this and it is well worth it and the translation was really well done) -Galaxy Angel (reminds me of Sakura Taisen in a different setting, love it) -Memories Off (using AGTH, have wanted to play this even longer than Never7) I'll be playing the final 4 arcs of Higurashi next!
  18. I just started using this yesterday for Memories Off 1. I can't believe how well it's been working so far, as I have been able to understand a good 85-90% of dialogue messages so far, and I have been wanting to play this game for a very long time. Even when something is impossible to understand, the next message or two usually serve to inform what was previously said. I don't know even a word of Japanese, and yet I've been able to piece together the meanings of almost everything I've run into in my 3 hours reading. Needless to say, I'm ecstatic with the program, which I'm using along with Tran
