Café Stella and the Reapers' Butterflies

  • Language: English

Takamine Kousei was living a carefree college life until, one day, he tragically died in an accident. But then, the bizarre happened: Takamine Kousei opened his eyes again. And what’s more, when he woke up, it was the morning of the very day he had died. He proceeded to relive the same day, unable to grasp the reality of his situation. Kousei soon realized that his previous experience was not some prophetic dream, nor was he experiencing deja vu; everything was taking place the exact same way.

Overwhelmed by fear due to the unbelievable situation he has found himself in, he came back to the place where had died. Then, at the moment of the accident, Kousei met a death goddess accompanied by a talking cat. The death goddess informed him that he has not yet avoided his death. In order to escape his grisly fate, Kousei must assist the death goddess with her work. And naturally, this means the opening of a café together.

By rewinding the world, Kousei may have overcome his fate for now, but can he overcome the certain death his future holds for him? This is the story of one man’s love and his defiance of the world and his own fate… maybe?

Fun fact: The minor side character Kariya Wakana from Sabbat of the Witch makes an appearance as a faceless background character in one of the background images used for the train station. She's on the hard right edge of the screen, but she matches her sprite from Sabbat right down to the outfit.

To help identify which BG image I'm referring to it's the same BG image that is up when the protagonist gets into the accident mentioned in the above description of the game.

So this is just a minor pet peeve in VN design in general, not specific to this title save for the fact this title is also guilty of it. I'm not sure what the proper name for this is but if this were a console video game I would call it a loading screen. The game makers go to the trouble of making a nice bit of artwork to use in transitions from one scene to the next, but transition away from it automatically so fast you don't have a time to truly appreciate it. It should wait on a click of the mouse or some such BEFORE continuing on. As I'm getting fed up with this, I managed to take a decent screen shot of it and am (going to try) uploading it here for anybody else who actually wants the opportunity to examine it in detail.

Transition Screen

You need more than the 3/4 of a second the game actually gives you to take a picture that busy all in.

SPOILERS! Don't read this until AFTER chatper 3-8.

Spoiler

So how many people realized that the customer who wouldn't eat his cakes and the little girl looking to buy a cake for her dad were father and daughter right off the bat? Over used cliche alert!

    • I vividly remember my first time with an escort.

It was last summer, my wife and I divorced after twenty years of married life. I worked my ass off so I could support us so she wouldn't have to lead an embarrassing life of poverty. It was all for naught, though. She eventually confessed that she found me repulsive, and that she was cheating on me with a guy over twenty years my junior. I was stunned, but I wasn't angry. I wasn't sad. I didn't even find it to be all that strange. The years I spent toiling away as a wage-slave stripped the love I had for my wife along with it.

That's precisely why I felt downright merry the night following our divorce. I went out drinking on my own, wandering around downtown for the first time since my bachelor days. The city had changed just like I did. As I watched the youngsters who now laid claim to downtown, I realized someone was looking at me.

The gaze belonged to a girl much younger than myself. At first glance, she seemed like the kind of girl who'd look disgusted if she had to sit next to a middle-aged guy like me on the train. But she made no effort to distance herself. In fact, she approached me... "Looking for a good time?"

And so began the tale of a divorcee with an unparalleled sex drive and his escort escapades with five young, Saintly Sluts.
