Are anime, manga and VN's in USA safe?

Recommended Posts

I'll be moving to USA in a month for university and this is something that has been bothering me for a while. Will it be safe to read manga online and download anime and VN's there? As far as I know using torrents is the biggest risk but what about DDL's. I'm from a third world country so I've been pirating stuff like crazy for a long time since no action is taken to stop it here. Although I do plan on subscribing to legal sites and buying whenever I can, its obviously not possible always. Especially for a student with limited funds. Which is why I'm asking here. To find out from people who already have experience on the matter. I don't want to take a risk that might put me in legal debt and cause me to leave my studies. Which is why I need some reassurance. I'm also worried about VN's since more and more are being licensed nowadays so the risk of legal action being taken are increasing. Any info would be helpful right now. Thank You

If you're using the school network then some sites might be unavailable(torrent sites are most likely to be blocked). I've also heard that they blocked steam on some Universities, if you wanted to play some games.

Reading manga is no problem as long as you find a site that is hosting it. The thing about anime and VN's is that you mentioned you download them as torrent's. Well, in the end if you're going to be using your own ISP, then forget everything I mentioned about sites being blocked.

One thing I do remember one of my friends used to download heaps of porn(back in the day people did that) on there network but he used a VPN... don't know if this still works(they might have blocked the ports) as I have not been in Uni for a bit of time. It will depend if the school you go to inevitably does this.

I think i answered all the question... well, whatever to lazy to go back and check.

use the library and watch/read there from online, its fairly commonplace. or use a guest account or unregistered laptop and see what shit flies and what doesn't as far as campus network policy goes. alternatively find other otaku or weeaboos and get their files.

Yes it does answer most of my questions. I moved on from torrents quite some time ago and currently ddl most things using a download manager, often anime from streaming sites as well. I guess my biggest question is if such ddls are safe or not.

I can't answer that question, since I don't know which ones you're downloading. Try to find ones that have a Reputation behind them, when I say "Rep" I mean community or something like that.(AnimeTake was a good one, but now it's gone)
