higguy 10
we have 1 expo in each of the major cities here each year most of it is based around anime, card games and sci-fi its mostly full of kids so no point even bothering to check there for other like minded people i do have conventions and expos in my country too , they happen around the mid and year ends , i usually attend them with a friend who is interested and the people there are all around my age ( i think ) , well at least u can't really spot a kid running around , i usually get my anime stuff when i go there. Well i think they do sell VNs there too ( in limited stock and high prices ) , cant really afford it though =P
Kyokuza 10
While VNs are so much more than Just "Anime Porn" the mass of normal people will just see it as such. I mean hell I finally yelled loud enough (shame is a weakness) that I found the hardcore anime group close to me. Though most are just casual. And within that group ive been able to spread VN love to 2 people. different strokes for different folks. with the meme of "all anime is tentacle porn" and most people wanting to shoot things more than sit down and read a story there will be many different opinions of the subject of VNs. Personally i just say: love what you love and if people think youre weird for it than so be it, cuz remember it's not those people you gotta look at in the mirror every day. as long as yer honest with yerself then you'll eventually find like minded people that share the same interest as you. And what's most important is to be IMO is that you can be honest with yourself and others at all times. And no one should be ashamed of being honest. Wow.. well said, I mean u are the first person actually said that . People have their own things, In terms of honesty i actually agreed .

phantasm 10
I think you need several requirements to enjoy VN First,u need to enjoy animes (I never heard a VN player who play VN but hate anime) Second, you need to have a interest in girls or boys(even though the story is the main focus of many good VN,we all love to see character development) Third, you need to like reading texts(this is really important,i think most people who like animes hate VN just because they are lazy to read so many texts) I think if a person meets the above requirements,he or she will enjoy VN. I think it's great that you and I happen to enjoy the same thing! No need to be ashamed or anything about liking VNs man. Everybody likes different things, no shame in that, and IMO you shouldn't be to worried about what's "normal" the way i see it. Normal is just what a bunch of people just "happen" to have in common. If it'll make you feel better, I'm very confident that this community loving VNs is completely normal . And i for one believe that flaws are good. I mean if everything was perfect we'd never have anything to look forward to.
Kyokuza 10
I just hope it's doesn't became a problem (or Issues) if some VNs are gonna be "famous"... Let's just hope that only people with same interest as this community joins us..

Hmmmm i agree with this 1. i love anime , and i doubt that anyone who reads a VN hate anime 2. i see no problem there 3. i personally love reading things , therefore i enjoy VNs =) well each person has their own likes and dislikes I just hope it's doesn't became a problem (or Issues) if some VNs are gonna be "famous"... tonhao90 10
if you like watching subbed anime visual novels are basically the same thing but it has more story, etc. so it shouldnt be a problem Actually, the gap between subbed anime and VN is the same between movies and books. VNs have much more text than anime subs. Btw, answering to the original subject of this thread: here in Brazil most people don't even know about VNs and think that anime is "kid's stuff". Even among anime lovers it's hard to find people who know VNs and those who do usually think that VN = hentai = perverted stuff. Thus VN isn't a very popular product and it isn't even sold around here. If I want to support a company, I must buy from foreign websites.
phantasm 10
The main problem of VN being unpopular lies in that 70% of the VN contains sex scenes. Therefore,VN gives an impression of being a perverted stuff and most people avoid it because of 18 + tag. Even for me,the all-ages VN i have played so far are clannad, little busters and ever-17 the out of infinity.(i have played 20 VN so far, only 3 of them being all age)

But idk, I guess the game industry knows whether they would sell if they removed the mature content of most VNs, so maybe it's necessary to have sex pics... (Even though I wouldn't miss them in most cases.)

It is their marketing strategy but it is also the reason for VN being unpopular.

udizzle 11
Maybe that is the right way of putting it . if thats the case i'd rather have visual novels continue to be a underground community kind of thing :/
tonhao90 10
if thats the case i'd rather have visual novels continue to be a underground community kind of thing :/ Yep, I don't mind it too. Although I get really excited when I find people to talk about VNs. I was so happy when I found out in Anime Friends (an anime event that happens every July in Brazil) some guys that played Tsukihime and FSN and I was able to talk to them and discuss 'bout the differences between the anime and the novels.
