Haika 12
So, had one of these moments again today. Two actually. Both in Muv-Luv Alternative, and both very spoilerish. The first came during operation 21 when the Susano first fires it's particle cannon thing. That little animated cut scene where the cannon ports or muzzles or whatever are uncovered after slowly panning up the machine was just awesome. I felt that tingle up the my spine and almost felt like cheering just like the characters in the game, that's how intense the moment felt to me. Normally, I'd not geek out quite so much, but the tense feel of the battle up to that point really pulls you in. During the same session, I also felt deeply about the Captain Isumi's death. That moment of saying goodbye to each of the squad with a salute had the corners of my eyes moistening, and I was resisting the silly urge to salute my monitor. Compared to Marimo's death that was basically a shock treatment from a stun gun, this deliberate and emotional parting was rough. I wasn't feeling nearly as connected to the characters in the squad that weren't in unlimited, And to be honest the death and things that happened with it kind of felt predictable. But I think part of that slow build up is what made it all the more touching and sad. And the kicker in the end about her death being labeled as a 'training accident' instead of a hero's sacrifice is just kicking a man when he's down.
Haika 12
More Muv-Luv Alternative moments: When the game slowly shows the faces of each of the squad and the CO is giving his speech before operation Cherry Blossom. At first I was fine with it, but then the background music hit me like a ton of bricks. And that amazing feeling that happens from really good moments washed over me, as the animation for the launch happened. Seems like ages ago I started this VN, and it's still not over yet. But that feeling of heading into the final stretch is strong. Wanted to post this moment before I got to the end, and had it overshadowed by whatever the finale might have in store. Haika 12
All of time... can only be thought of as a fleeting dream. Clannad, Fuko's Path If you've played Clannad and don't know EXACTLY what I mean by that quote, you need to go play her route again.

My thoughts exactly. Perfect quote for that route. Another memorable moment for me from Ever 17: BIG Ever 17 Sora's route when she had her mini breakdown after revealing she saw Takeshi and Tsugumi having sex. Had never seen that side of her before and the way they portrayed her struggle with herself, literally and figuratively, made the entire route worth it for me. Definitely made her feel more like a real person than just a artificial system at that moment. Edited December 24, 2012 by someguy withaname

It felt like I just played Russian Roulette.. it's from Ever17 and it's a fairly big spoiler.

Lucia route (still playing, but has a lot of memorable moments) When Kotarou used his rewrite power to become imune to Lucia's poison. Haika 12
Haah... Just finished Misae's route in Clannad. Was totally not expecting to get so invested. There are so many moments in this VN that I've known about from watching(and loving the anime) when it first came out, years ago. I know there's a bit more to her route(the orb of light) in Tomoyo's path, but the flashback dream thing was so impactful(far moreso than I expected). I played the twins routes before this, and that just made me a bit bored(Ryou), and pissed off at the mc(Kyou). Both were very sweet and romantic, but at the same time, I didn't feel that gut punch like with Fuuko and now Misae. It leaves me thinking about how I'm personally alone now, and all the mistakes I've made in the past with romance, and how I totally disregarded any chances I might have had in high school and even college. It's a bit depressing. I've said for a while that the best VN's bring out emotion and retrospective on our real lives. As I read this novel, instead of playing any of the new games I got from steam this christmas, I wonder about why I'm more interested in a romantic novel than in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age that I've wanted to play since they came out. I think it comes down to that feeling of regret I have over my teenage life. And I think the reason I like the more fantastical bits, is some inner hope that some phenomena might yet happen to change my life into something that evokes these feelings naturally. Or even just a basic wish that reality isn't as bleak and depressing as it usually is. It's a bit silly, and I know the only one who can really change one's life is themselves... but I can't help but have these thoughts as I type this with the clannad title music playing in the background. Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
In Saya no Uta The white room ending. Particularly the conversation using the phone. It's bittersweet. The fighting scene between Tonoo Kouji and Sakisaka Fuminori. Or you could just say pipe VS axe.
