  1. I'm a verbose college-educated guy. And before I got into eroges, I was a regular at certain forums where being very precise in your arguments was a partial protection against flamewars, the biased whimsy of the administrators, and their Banhammer. Old habits die hard.
  2. Sadly true, to varying degrees. I had to lower my standards, when I got enamored with eroges. I still have serious trouble finishing really bad examples (I am looking at you, Heart de Roommate) and competent/proactive MC are a much welcome surprise (hello, Majikoi and G-Senjou no Maou). The only case passivity/incompetence does not bother me is when I play feminization or 'corruption into sluthood' female PoV nukiges (hello, X-Change series), because it then becomes part of the fetish I fancy.
  3. Good for you. Personally I tend to have very little patience or appreciation for horror and angst as dominant themes of fiction, in all likelihood because my optimistic, cheerful, and fearless personality traits leave me very little ground to emphatize with them. They bore me to tears or annoy me to ragequit. Comedy, heroic action-adventure, fantasy wonder, cheerful slice-of-life, and optimistic personal growth stories resonate much better with my tastes and personality. I also struggle to remember a serious loss in my life I could not bounce back from in a few weeks to months at most, so I
  4. Notwithstanding my general dislike of all-ages titles (chaste romance turns me off), if this be true, I'd be very excited. I loved Deardrops, and considerably fancied Kira Kira (well, except the angst in Kira's route). I yearn for more of both titles, especially Deardrops.
  5. I seem to remember the translator was working at an average rate of 1% per week last time we heard about it, and Miyako's route has been 85% done for a few weeks. Do your math. I hope we get a new patch after that route is completed. As it concerns the True route, with that rate of translation... better not to hold your breath for it. I don't remember which sub-routes remain untranslated.
  6. Seconded. In my experience, when you fulfill those main routes prerequisites, it may be necessary to restart the common route in order to make the side routes appear in the selection screen.
  7. In your experience, which are the eroges that you have enjoyed playing a second time (in their entirety or just a few routes/scenes), or might contemplate to ?
  8. According to the characters' list in Wiki, what Google translated as "only child" is actually the Ichiko route, and Kanade is simply the Kana route. For reasons incomprehensible to me, Systran has failed to translate the g-seeker.net Otoboku walkthrough. While Systran is often more fussy than Google in translating Japanese web pages (but may provide more clear translations), so far it had had no problems with g-seeker.net pages.
  9. When a Japanese walkthrough is the only option, I generally make two machine translations: one with Google and the other with Systran, as I have found the combination somewhat improves comprensibility - if one choice remains obscure in one version, often it is a bit more clear in the other. Both systems generally mistranslate the names of the characters horribly. What I generally do, in such a situation, is to look up the names of the heroines in vndb.org, or sometimes Wikipedia. Usually there are both the Japanese name and the English/Romanji version. Then I look up the title of the route

As I feared, to find a copy of the Japanese version is proving rather difficult. Filehosting links died in the Megaupload debacle, the one active torrent lacks seeds. It seems I won't be able to give Miyu an happy ending, darn.

This is very interesting. Miyu's unavoidable tragic ending is the by far most unsatisfactory part of the English version. However, this is an old game, so finding a copy of the Japanese version may be difficult.

Nifty VNs (this one and Snow Sakura were my introduction to the wonderful world of story-focused eroges; both are cool, although I liked the lightheartedness of SS more). I seem to remember I read somewhere that the English version is incomplete, and a Japanese version exists with extended scenes. Does anybody know what the extra content is ?
  13. If you played and liked X-Change Alternative and X-Change 3, I also suggest you play Sekai wo Seifuku Suru Tame no, 3tsu no Houhou (3 Methods to Conquer the World). Same basic idea, but the protagonist is a young Maou (demon king) in a fantasy world. It was good, too.
  14. Sure. I'm a big fan of Crowd games, X Change 1-3, Yin-Yang X Change Alternative 1, and 3 Methods to Conquer the World (plus fandisk), and next week Yin-Yang X Change EX, their spiritual successor, shall be released. It combines one of my preferred genres (school life comedy) with one of my preferred fetishes (feminization sex-change), so I am very eagerly expecting it. I thoroughly enjoyed all of those games, except Yin-Yang Change Alternative 2, which I soon ragequit as I found the multiple protagonist story too confusing to follow even with machine translation, and it had a different fet
  15. Last summer, I bought a new laptop since the old one's graphic card showed signs of serious trouble. I had installed machine translation software (AGTH, Atlas, and Translation Aggregator) on the old laptop some time ago and used it to machine-translate several Japanese eroges. As a rule, I've realized I find machine translation of Japanese games a worthwhile pursuit if it's nukiges I especially fancy, to get a broad understanding of their simple stories and of important scenes, or on a big stretch, to finish untranslated or partially translated routes in story-driven eroges if I'm really, r
  16. Well, just an idea, but since he wishes for some respite from h-scenes, and the Majikoi translator had to slow down his pace because of lack of time, couldn't he switch to collaborate (and hence accelerate) the Majikoi project for a while ? Miyako, Agave, and the side routes surely aren't h-scene-heavy.
  17. It seems the translated beginning of Miyako's route (up to the beach contest) has been inserted in the current patch, which includes a couple scenes when the protagonist shows he may start to accept Miyako's love, and her surprise to the lack of the usual (polite) firm rejection is rather tender and cute.
  18. Actually, it seems it was an issue with the savefile I used. Once you told me so, I created a new one by restarting the game from the beginning, and she actually shows up. Sorry.
  19. How does one unlock the Chika sub-route ? I'm just done playing the translated routes and sub-routes (including the limited amout of the Miyako route that came with the patch), and I noticed the Chika option never shows in the character choice screen, even if Umeko, Cap, Gakuto, and Moro do (I suppose one needs the Miyako route to unlock the true one). Yet, according to the English walkthrough, her route option should be unlocked after one beats three routes, but it gives no detail on untranslated routes. I tried to look at the machine-translated Japanese walkthrough, but I could not make any
  20. I'd be more than happy just with an Erika patch. Every time I read that list, I scratch my head trying to grasp just what heck the hidden route is about. It can't be the true (Erika) route, since it is listed separately. Neither vndb nor the machine-translated Japanese walkthrough seem to give any clue.
  21. Oh, good, now I have a choice between completing the translated Majikoi routes (Chris, Wanko, and Yukie done, Momoyo and teacher to do) first or switching to the FA Shiro route. I like to have this kind of doubt.
  22. Err, sorry, it said Miyako route is 70% done, with roughly 1% advancement per week. It means about 30 weeks left to complete the route, well into 2013. Not the best of news, not the worst of news for Miyako fans, but unless the translators find a way to improve their current schedule substantially, we won't have a new patch when Santa comes to say hello.
  23. But it looks like that torrent has the flawed v1 translation, so we are back to square one. I've got the same problem as the OP: I'm stuck a v1 copy, which Hybridweiss cannot patch successfully.
  24. Seconded. I finished FH and its translation read nowhere so terrible to me in comparison, not much different from MG's first, flawed version of Edelweiss.
  25. I deem myself very lucky that on average (My Girlfriend is the President being the glaring exception), Mangagamer releases appeal to my tastes much more than JAST theoretical ones. Being a rather impatient person, I cannot begin to fathom the immense, rock-chewing frustration I'd feel otherwise.
