  1. Sharin no Kuni. Just some pic I found.

  2. Happy Birthday battler!

  3. Happy Birthday Chex!

  4. Very well then...

Well you can use whatever pace you want of course. Reading only during nighttime certainly makes it better though (for the early arcs specifically), but you could technically read it whenever you've got the time. It's up to you.

  5. Which is why the game comes with that setting ("Call Menu") already chosen in my pack. For every single arc. Yes, that's right. That's the reason the BGI.gdb file exists in all of those arc folders already when you unpack the game. Because I put it on "Call Menu" in the config screen for all of them. But since you messed with the unlocks and had to delete the BGI.gdb to reset them, that setting also got reset of course for 1-4. Default = hide textbox on right click *shrug*. Whatever the case, normally it won't be a problem because normally you won't have to delete the BGI.gdb. :p

Hehe... It's okay to take it slow in Hinamizawa. Might as well enjoy those peaceful days.

  6. Cool, awesome, no problems then ^^. Well... hope you can get invested in the story and its characters! It's a really long one you know, if you take all 8 arcs into consideration. Very meaty. But that's just a plus in my book anyway.

  7. But errrr, that just can't be right. I downloaded it today myself, ran the 1-4 game and nothing is unlocked - as it should be. So that doesn't make any sense. Does the main menu look like the one I linked? Like this http://i.imgur.com/ZBBDMxP.jpg ? If so then everything is as it should be. And here's how the Start game menu should look like: http://i.imgur.com/5e9hCO0.jpg - Only Onikakushi should be unlocked.

Scenario jump mode shouldn't be available for Onikakushi either.

You didn't go to the Extras menu and unlock stuff with the "Unlock Previous Chapters" did you?

Whatever the case: deleting the "BGI.gdb" file in the game folder will remove all unlocks and options. You could do that.

  8. You didn't download and use my pack then? Because that shouldn't happen if you do. The only thing that should be in the Extras menu is "Unlock previous chapters". As for the Start game menu - there will always be at least three options there (arcs), but two of them will be locked. This is what the main menu looks like with nothing unlocked or completed: http://i.imgur.com/ZBBDMxP.jpg

Well if you just want to use some other version you downloaded and want to remove the unlocks it has, then delete the "BGI.gdb" file in the game folder. That will reset all options and unlocks. Make sure you put "Function of right click" to Call Menu in the options menu afterwards.

Also make sure you've got the latest PC music + sound patch for the game if you're not actually using my pack.

The scenario jump mode is something that you gain access to for a specific arc after finishing said arc. It only pops up when you start the arc. With it, you can jump to any day/event of that arc.

  9. Well I dunno what kind of connection you have...

If it's a big deal to download 1.2gb that the complete pack takes, and if you simply only want to patch the version of the game that you've already downloaded (with arcs 1-4), then:

    1. Get the 1-4 music pack compilation (non-PS2)

    2. Get the sound patch v2, because the version of the game that you downloaded from that mediafire link might not be fully updated

    3. Download the font patch and install the font file in it (drag it into the Windows Fonts folder if necessary)

The game you have should already have the PS2 graphic patch in it.

  10. Well I got a simple answer for you about that stuff actually: Get this complete pack of Higurashi I made recently! :p part1 part2 part3 part4 part5 part6

With this you don't need to worry about anything except one thing, which is mentioned in the readme. The pack contains arcs 1-8. As many patches as possible are included while also keeping it as "stable" as possible at the same time. I made sure that no extras are unlocked from the start, and I also removed a patch that causes a bug in arc 7. And that's different from the versions of the game that you linked actually.

Download pack - check readme - play. Easiest that way!

PC music > PS2 Music, if the PS2 music is the same thing as the Matsuri music.

  11. ------- Personally I prefer Hinamizawa (Higurashi) to Rokkenjima (Umineko) as a setting in general. As for the story... we'll see. Episode 3 in Umineko was better than any arc in all of Higurashi (1-8)... I think... pretty sure. Well it's reeeeally promising in any case. Might end up loving Umineko even more, though that's not for certain.

Both were written by Ryukishi07 (GREAT writing)... and after completing Higurashi, I feel right at home in Umineko even though the story is certainly different and all that. I know you've been trying to get Ef working for ya, which is also a great VN - especially the last chapters in it. But if you can't do that... then... well... might as well start on Higurashi, no? Can't absolutely guarantee that you'll like it though of course. Different tastes and all that.

Yea I had to post this in two parts, haha. Character limit. :S

  12. Heh, thanks ^^. It's Rena from Higurashi!

Well it's easy to say at least that Umineko is awesome. It sure as hell has the best music in any VN I've read so far, though that seems to be a really common opinion (that it has the best OST). Same thing with the voice acting, which is something you can only get with the PS3 patches. It's very, very enjoyable overall. Great characters, fun story, a lot of thinking to do (a plus), and so on.

But is it better than Higurashi? That's more difficult to say. Most people do consider it to be better I think, though it's really subjective anyway. Technically, it is better in several areas. For example - it has faaaar more and better quality music, a lot more characters to love, awesome voice acting which Higu doesn't have any of at all, and maybe some other stuff. But the story? The setting? That's different. It'll come down to taste for sure. -------

  13. Happy Birthday Sera! :D

  14. Oh, that so? Very good to know, thanks! Well I wasn't really planning on watching any more of it before finishing the VN to be honest, so it's alright. ^^

Just saw this by the way on the Witch Hunt VNDB page:

"An amateur group formed to translate Umineko no Naku Koro ni. They later gained Ryukishi07's approval." <-- That's awesome.

  15. Hahaha battler <3 That's a good opening really! Well, I like it anyway. The first line of it is sweet when translated ("When you turn around, who is that behind you?"). I downloaded the anime 'cause I was pretty curious what it would be like with animation and voice acting... sure wasn't as good as the VN, at least not in the first three or four episodes. Too fast pacing, not enough buildup at all. From one important event to the next one. Oh well, saw at least one or two scenes in there that were nice. Maybe it would be worth watching all of it after the VNs... -maybe-.

  16. Naaah, ain't me... on the EU West server I've got "Harlequina", "Keelroy", and "Comedienne". On the NA server I've got just "Harlequina".

  17. ILYASVIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL!

Sorry, but the character is one of my favourites, and since you've got her as avatar and such I just had to post something here!

  18. Happy birthday Max! ^^
