lol its contradicting I know. But I gotta lay my cards on the table at some point. I read EF about a month ago and can't get over how great Yuuko's route was for me personally. The picture is my small attempt at a dedication to her story even though Mayuri is still number 1 for me.

To be honest OneManArmy, I do sympathize with your reluctance a great deal. I would not personally care for, at least right this moment, an eroge with content lacking in Japanese influences either. Japanese culture is extremely fascinating to me and it would definitely be off for me too, even as someone who is from the west. That being said, the point I wanted to make was that while Japanese influenced eroge would not make up 100% of the pie anymore the pie itself, being the eroge industry in general, would increase substantially in size. This would mean that while say for example, 20% of all eroge are Japanese based in the year 2050 that 20% would be larger than the 100% we have today because the market is way bigger for them. More people would become aware of eroge in general which would allow for all kinds of future Japanese eroge lovers that are simply ignorant of the fact they exist or they have been stigmatized into thinking they are bad. The kinds of eroge you and I care about will still be there, in greater numbers to boot, it would simply be accompanied by a family of other types of eroge as well. This would also have the added benefit of stirring up competition as well which will force everyone, not just Japanese companies, to stay on their A game more and provide more higher quality products. An example would be if say, a European based eroge company started to become more popular in the United States and began to cut into the Japanese eroge company's market they would be forced to take action. Now someone might think, they could just cut off translating eroge to the United States altogether but it would be a waste of revenue they could potentially be receiving, executives love putting our money in their pockets after all, and would be harmful to their company and personal wallets. This competition could consequently, stir the Japanese companies into action and would push them into investing more in increasing awareness about Japanese eroge as well as translating higher quality eroge for all non-Japanese consumers to enjoy in that country. I personally feel that while a transition to a more multi-cultural level would be a very painful one for many of us, I think that it is necessary if the eroge industry is to grow and evolve. The Japanese are an amazing people in my opinion and I think that the Japanese eroge industry will be capable of surviving, as well as thriving, in a more globally competitive environment.

Just finished Clannad a week ago. It was really good overall, I'd give it a 7/10, but I find that the whole school life angst thing is not working for me like it used to, with having a job and in college its not as relateable as it once was I guess. After Story was better for me personally as it was more about things I'm dealing with now in my own life, even though I personally would have preferred another girl besides the one for the true ending.

Mayuri from Steins;Gate without a doubt. She is always supportive of the man in her life, tries her best to be positive, places others well being before her own, gives nicknames that I would publicly rage against but secretly love when no ones around, and is pleased with any sort of gift so long as its from the person she cares about.

Most memorable for me would have to be from Remember 11 Most unexpected memorable moment though was probably Monster Girl Quest 2 at the end. Never expected to care about the outcome of a game with reverse raping monster girls as a basis.

Alright, my first post! I gotta start somewhere and I figure this is a pretty good topic so here I go...... (Four legged creature hesitantly appears from his nest and surveys his surroundings) Disclaimer: I type a lot of words for some reason or another so brace yourself for some longer than average posts in the future too In my opinion I think that it would be worth the risk. This is because I don't think eroge as it is would be required to stay in its current form everywhere else. If eroge where given the opportunity to take route in other countries it could expand itself beyond the japanese influences that it finds itself in. An example of this could be the movie industry. Lets say there is a hypothetical world were all movies are made in one country. Aside from there being far fewer movies, these movies would also be representative of THAT countries culture and ITS views of what other countries are like. This is not a problem per se, if you are a movie fan and are fascinated by that country, and its people but many many others would be turned off by being forced to learn about a foreign culture, such is the sad world we live in. There would be many who would say things like "Why should I watch movies? I here they have anti-[input religion] depictions of sex" or "Movies!? Their kind of weird. Whats with [input any cultural bias you want]" etc, etc. Obviously this sort of world does not exist and movies are excepted pretty much everywhere they are available. They also come in all shapes in sizes, no pun intended, and regardless of what one group may think about a particular genre of movie or movies from one country, few groups can make a solid argument about movies in general, such as the feminists that are mentioned in other posts. (I know the movie industry is not the eroge industry, I am just using it to get my idea across) This is why I feel if eroge expanded and took root beyond their current niche, while they would receive great criticism like many have stated, I think they would be all the stronger for it. One of the most notable benefits, as well as potential disadvantage short term, would be the disappearance of the "unknown factor". People would be exposed to eroge much more than they are now and as the market expands new domestic companies could jump in and take advantage of potential profits. This would lead to more eroge that have not just japanese cultural origins but American, Austrian, South African, Brazilian, etc. These countries could then enforce their own laws and standards that would be specific to them. I feel that this would also give the current niche for eroge, which has more Japanese influences, an opportunity to grow as potential fans who simply do not know about eroge would now be exposed to it and could potentially like traditional eroge better than newer eroge from new domestic companies in their country. I have more but this is already a long post so I will stop this here for now so everyone can breath a sigh of relief as my long post is now finished.
