This will be the highest profile ecchi RPG to ever be officially released in English. It's highly rated on both VNDB (8.3/10; #5 ranked in untranslated RPGs) and Erogamescape (80/100), and is particularly praised for its strong gameplay melded with moe romantic comedy and sci-fi themes. The game was developed by members of the same team that worked on the popular titles Aselia the Eternal (released) and Seinarukana (also being worked on by JAST). Recommended audience Do you like gameplay with your VNs? Are you a fan of games like Aselia the Eternal, Duel Savior, Kamidori Alchemy Meister, and Sengoku Rance? This may be the game for you! Why you should buy this To support more English releases of excellent gameplay VNs. These tend to be ignored by the fan translation community (in part because of the technical challenges), so supporting official releases is important if you want to see more. Synopsis "The Student Council Election is your only hope. Fight, win, and change your destiny!" Midorishita Yumina is a junior at the prestigious Jinbu Academy. Far from being a model student, Yumina skirts the precarious line between barely passing and failing hard. One day, a young man named Akashima Ayumu transfers into her class. Ayumu claims to have been sent by his father, an eccentric and possibly delusional man who ordered Ayumu to find and protect Yumina, whom he believes will one day save the universe. Ayumu and Yumina are at odds from the moment they first meet. They bicker endlessly, day after day, until finally Yumina goes too far and starts a fight just before a critical test. Her failure dooms her to repeat the year. But just when it seems all hope is lost, a mysterious girl named Kurokawa Kirara appears and invites Yumina to run for Student Council President. According to Kirara, whoever wins an Election War and becomes President will have the power to change any school rule he or she likes. Realizing that this is her only hope of becoming a senior, Yumina agrees to join the race, and drags Ayumu along for the ride! Thus begins an epic tale of love and friendship in which youthful passions run high and debates shake the foundation of the heavens. Who will emerge victorious!? Free trial JAST has released a playable demo which includes the entire first chapter of the game, including story segments and combat. Release date and availability Yumina the Ethereal is scheduled for release August 30th, and is available in hard copy or digital format through JAST, J-List, and RightStuf. desi 53
Nice try, Jast employee. Just kidding.. does Jast even have any employees? Have been looking forward to this. Not sure if i'll purchase it yet or not, though.
Chocolatemilkgod 16
I'll probably eventually purchase it. Immediately?...Maybe not. As for gameplay, I like some types. RPG gameplay I enjoy (so I should be fine with this), but stuff like what's in Yu-No I'm not so keen on. Still, definitely looking forward to this; should be fun. ultimecea 22
ohh,,,,so someone will buy JAST's release??? btw..IVAN said that he wont buy anything that was released from JAST.. so..expect to get it from Ai(van)-chan instead...probably a few months later [if no one gonna share their files]
sanahtlig 10
Nice try, Jast employee. Just kidding.. does Jast even have any employees? Have been looking forward to this. Not sure if i'll purchase it yet or not, though. I think JAST has one full-time employee. And it's not me. That employee is now on vacation, so there's no left to let anyone know about the gem that JAST is just allowing to slip through their fingers. It amazes me they aren't trying to market this to the wider niche JRPG audience. People bought Agarest War in droves just because of the porny marketing. Now JAST actually has a game that can walk the walk as well as talk to talk, but...
strom 10
This is still an up in the air decision for me. Will have to figure out closer to release if I can afford the damn thing or not, and if I can, do I want to buy it.
sanahtlig 10
I guarantee better gameplay than Boob Wars. And a better story than Super Secret Sexy Spy.
strom 10
Well, I got to play those 2 titles for free. Saved some money, and earned some money, testing them. This on the other hand requires me to spend money I may or may not have at the time, and also money I may or may not want to give to JAST to keep supporting them. Probably will buy it, but the timing for me buying it is up in the air.
Erika Furudo 10
I`ve already ordered my copy, at the moment it`s on 2nd position on my list of VNs that I`m waiting for (1st is Grisaia). I`m really looking forward to placing Yumina DVD box on shelf. This will be first VN ever that I`ve bought. Edited July 17, 2013 by Erika Furudo
killerinsidee 14
I guarantee better gameplay than Boob Wars. And a better story than Super Secret Sexy Spy. Anything is better then those two, you shouldn't really compare them to Yumina.

B-b-but...Ultim the Wise(?) Flamer said: why buy when you can pirate??? so, erm... ... Joke aside, I don't think I'll buy this. The premise of the game failed to attract me. (And neither the heroines cast too, but that's not the main point.) Nonetheless, I encourages people who likes gameplay VN to purchase this so that we could have more localized gameplay VN. Though, since it is Jast, gameplay localization ratio is meaningless because right now they seems to only release two games a year, regardless. What we could hope is that the sales will encourage other localization company to see the potential of gameplay VN in the market. Also, just a heads up, the sci-fi OP uploader wrote a warning that said "(Spoiler Video!)" so anyone should watch that at their own risk. I guarantee better gameplay than Boob Wars. And a better story than Super Secret Sexy Spy. That doesn't saying much actually. Edited July 17, 2013 by Gerard the Lone Wolf

sanahtlig 10
I think people are making a bit of a fuss over what was supposed to be a (private) joke between me and strom. But yes, Yumina is WAY better than any gameplay eroge that have been officially released to date. I just wish I had a demo to win over some of the skeptics.

But yes, Yumina is WAY better than any gameplay eroge that have been officially released to date. I just wish I had a demo to win over some of the skeptics. There are a couple titles I wish had a demo for people. At least, a good demo. Some demos can actually hurt sales if not made well.
YuukoXD 10
I'm looking forward to this, but like other people said... I'm still unsure if I'll buy it or not. I'm still a bit confused on the gameplay. I watched the gameplay trailers, but it still didn't tell me much. Like strom said, I just wish they have some sort of demo to give us a better idea of the gameplay. Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
Gameplay video: [spoiler= Yumina] I think I could undertand how it works a bit. Still not that interested though.
censuur 10
Isn't the combat basically like Eien No Aselia? The graphic style is a bit off-putting though, I can only call it "kiddy" (vndb seems to call it SD - super deformed) which kind of takes any possible seriousness out of the fights. That essentially sets up some red flags about the story (it's hard to see something as threatening when it looks as such, instead of say a threatening dragon you get puff the magic dragon), which I dearly hope are false. It also seems to feature dungeon crawling, which hopefully isn't going to be another random-encounter grindfest. What it boils down to is that without a very good demo (good in the sense that it properly shows the games strengths and weaknesses) this game has too many potential negative points to be a purchase on release for me :|
Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
Aren't chibi character is usual for gameplay, even Duel Savior is chibi and it's still fun during the first three playthrough. Can't exactly call Sengoku Rance graphic as "adultish" either.
censuur 10
Things like dual savior have a cartoonish style, but not exactly "chibi", the key difference to me would be the size of the heads/eyes and them being actually bigger than the bodies themselves. I don't really mind a cartoonish style at all, and after some further research this seems to be a mostly comedy oriented story so it might actually be more fitting. I guess the issue is mostly the disparity between my expectations and reality, what with the title and the combat system resembling Eien No Aselia I was expecting a somewhat serious story along the same vein. In the end, this looks more like a muv-luv extra than a muv-luv alternative, and I'm doubtful if that's going to turn out to be a good thing.
Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
Muv-Luv Extra? I respect your opinion, but I still think your first impression of the game is waaaay too harsh. I could tell you that the game is divided into two part, with the latter plot is much more serious, but anything beyond that goes straight to spoilering. If you are expecting MLA kinda game, then i dunno, seems like your expectation is indeed very high. o.O (Even Rewrite from Key's can't surpass MLA, and I think most people will somewhat agree with this, although reluctant to compare.) Btw, here's a non-spoiler review for everyone to oogle. Review Edited July 18, 2013 by Gerard the Lone Wolf
