  1. Personally I won't read machine translations because when it's that bad it totally breaks my immersion reading a NV. However if even a few people appreciate the effort then why complain in the long run? Even if you don't like it personally someone still put time and effort into doing it and them doing so has taken absolutely nothing away from you. I really don't understand the sense of entitlement some people have toward what it essentially a free product. My first thought when I see some folks going on about how terrible some things are is that they need to take a step back and rethink some of their priorities and values.

    1. Gives less of a chance of actual translators that want to translate it if someone puts out machine translated garbage

    2. English translators aren't perfect at all and certain times they don't convey the entire message of the visual novel in question, but with machine translations people judge an author's work without reading a decent translation for it.

It's cool if people want to use tools to read raw VN's with machine translations or whatever, that's definitely their choice. But when patches are released of pure machine translations is when there are problems. I mean, if it's some nukige then yeah, people are mostly like whatever.. but if it's something like White Album 2 where it seems like it's pretty close to machine level, then it really sucks.

    Anyway,

Looks like Key is going to announce something Planetarian related once AX rolls around (possible localization?)

Still sticking with this prediction Shiei no Sona-Nyl -What a beautiful memories- as to what koestl is translating. We'll see in about 7 hours though.

  2. Why don't they translate the really great games that are out there? Anyway, this topic is to discuss =)

Even though this has been beaten to death already, there are a few reasons why.

    1. License costs. It costs more to license a lot of the good/great titles versus a nukige.

    2. Profit. They make more of a profit on nukige. Sex sells and it doesn't take much time to translate a nukige. They can push it out pretty quickly and make a good return on it.

Really, they can't just translate any great game out there. Talks with producers can end up being long and the fact that a lot of the more famous producers don't want their VN's to be localized at all hurts. There will always be more nukiges translated than story-driven VN's with MG, but it's just a fact of life now.. those nukiges help them survive as a company and help get those few story-driven VN's released.

  3. Doesn't look like it's out yet. Looks like later today. I haven't played it so warning on that, but looks like a really simple moege that one plays if they have nothing better to read. Translator is definitely awesome with the surprise announcement and not announcing all that progress until the end, but you might like it if you like simple moeges.

  4. I think at the rate it's going Comyu is going to be finished by end of August. It gets about .5-.7 % per week pretty consistently, and because math end of august seems reasonable...

Brah, I told you 2.5-3 months last time you asked and you didn't believe me. Surprise release tomorrow.

Monobeno happy end translation has started http://elu-tl.blogspot.fr/ but they don't seem to be too experienced..

    EDIT:

As for experience, I've watched around 500 anime with english subs, can read hiragana, katakana and around 200 kanji.

Abandon all hope if you actually had any.

  6. People argue that the reason why they wait for EX/ME is so that they don't have to re-read everything, but personally I'll have no problem re-reading everything.

Not everyone has time. Some people just want to wait for the best version. Also, a lot of people that are waiting are also in the club of "We have a lot of VN's available to read because we haven't read every single thing out yet so it doesn't matter if we wait since we have a shitload of things to do to" club.

  7. [spoiler=The Sagara Family] It's avoidable. The biggest one is in the mother's route and you can avoid that by not doing the bad ending. All the other "NTR" scenes are very minor and don't involve sex, just minor touching
