What is the last eroge you finished, and what do you think about it?

Recommended Posts

I finished ghost trick yesterday and it was great! I guess not TECHNICALLY a visual novel, but it needs some love since not a lot of people know about it. It's a DS game with puzzles and dialogue (think 999). Definitely something you need to check out if you're a fan of puzzles and/or mystery. Just avoid looking stuff up about it since it's easy to spoil yourself. The first two paragraphs on the wiki is fine. Just need an emulator and a rom and you're set.

FINALLY done with Rewrite. It took almost half a year to finish because army ate most of my time to play. I'm pretty satisfied with most of the content it had but there were also scenes that could have been done a lot better.

First about routes. I played them in order Lucia > Kotori > Chihaya > Shizuru > Akane. Common route was too long and boring; I didn't like it that much. There were some hilarious moments (mostly Kotori's scenes), though. Also Yoshino’s fan song really cracked me up.

Lucia's route's beginning (the revealing of her toxic touch) was splendid and I was pretty sure that it would keep going like that. Well, it didn't. I was shocked when the story ended in the death of a whole city while the main characters continued to live happily in luxury thinking "oh well, it can't be helped".

Kotori's route was quite good overall. The situation with her parents was especially well made. However, like the previous one, this route had a boring ending as well. First they were chased like there's no tomorrow and then BOOM, wild Shizuru appears and after that everyone go home. Too bad, I really found Kotori adorable and wanted her route to be a lot better.

I don't want to talk much about Chihaya's route, it was so dull: Kotarou said all the time that he loved her but that's it, nothing else happened. I didn't like her as a person so it really wasn't that big a disappointment. Sakuya's story was well done, though.

Shizuru was my favorite heroine in the game due to her cute expressions, and her route was one of the best. I was looking forward to a bit happier ending but the final scene (Shizuru sleeping at the foot of the tree) was still beautiful enough to satisfy me.

I didn't like Akane's character at first but her route changed everything and she ended up as my #2 heroine right after Shizuru. At one point (when Kotarou started killing people in the forest) I thought this would be the "evil" route of the game. Fortunately that wasn't the case and everything ended, umm, apocalyptically? Once again, they could have done the ending a bit better, IMO eternal banishment isn't exactly a good way to end a story. I would have wanted to see at least their everyday life while secluded from everything.

Moon was overall the best route in the game. It had enough action and was pretty simple, but there was also some deep stuff that made you think about the secrets of universe. I have no idea why but the scene that brought me closest to tears in the whole game was the one where one of the branches in Kagari's programm managed to avoid the end of the world thanks to Kotarou's message.

Moon raised my expectations really high, and Terra almost managed to fill them. Everything was fine till the last fucking 45 minutes: they just started screwing every single one of the scenes one after another. For instance the epic battle between Kotarou and earth dragon was way too short compared to the dialogue between them. I liked the idea of Kotarou becoming a familiar similar to Sakuya, but the way they executed the last scene (summoning of Kotarou and the trip to moon) was just boring.

Oppai ending was hilarious, end of the story.

CGs were decent, but nothing special. However, especially the ones that had familiars (leaf and earth dragons for example) in them were pretty much all very unclear. I just couldn’t sort out where all their body parts were.

Finally, we get to the best part of the VN: music. Holy crap, I’ve never enjoyed listening to the BGM as much as I did with Rewrite and I can tell that is really something. Most of the OSTs were top grade and none of them were bad.

actually made it into the list of my favorite tracks of all time.

All in all Rewrite was an enjoyable VN, so I’ll give it 7.5/10 (~8=very good). One thing that separates it from other VNs that I’ve played is that it actually managed to teach me something important: I see conservation in a totally new light now, and I also understand why all these activist organizations (Greenpeace etc.) are doing what they do.

Edit. Woah, that was longer than I thought. Sry, didn't mean to write a review...

oh yeah, KEY vn's always have good bgm's. Actually, Key vn's are always top notch.

yes the knight and the flower certainly did overshadow chihaya.

I believe it was removed from VNDB after some discussion yes, so it's 'borderline', hehe.

I really liked it as it is a game with a nice story and a fun concept, good that you liked it as well!

finished ef-a tale of two. Great vn, worthy of reading. Great music, voice acting. Story was good too. Sorry i just finished it, words aren't really coming to me as it was a emotional story. My only complain is the fact that i had several issues with the sound(it stopped working and i had to reinstall it and then change the directory to fix it), and the fact that there is no "Gallery" or a place to review the music or event cg's of ef (VERY IMPORTANT FEATURE FOR A VN LIKE THIS)

How good is ef anime?

I'm very happy that you enjoyed the VN and don't worry, it took me an entire day to come to terms with the last chapter and dat ending.

1. MG's version of the game has a gallery option, just in case you're REALLY interested. Too bad that MG won't release a bundle hardcopy of ef =\

2. The anime is pretty good but in the second season (which is about the last two chapters) they totally fucked up Yuuko's arc or in other words the most awesome part of ef.

Yeah, looks like you read the fan-translated version when you could have read the official version, but no big deal. The anime is pretty good, but like OMA said.. the one major thing that stops it from being a great adaptation is how they handled some of the Melodies. Still worth a watch IMO.

Finished Steins;Gate earlier today. Holy shit man, I can now see why people like it so much. Why it's so popular. Well, the anime contributes to that, but the VN is at #2 on VNDB right now... sooo yea. Actually I think the anime is at #2 on MAL as well.

It's very easy to get into. This is the kind of story that I'd recommend to people who aren't used to VNs. Really fits that bill. And it also happens to be really, really good in general, so that's a sweet combination. I kinda wish I had read it earlier myself, although after seeing the entire thing... it's not a big deal. Because it ended being awesome either way.

One thing I have to say about S;G that I don't usually see a lot of people pointing out, is that it has soooooooooo much tear-inducing stuff in it. A surprising amount. It made me tear up so many friggin' times. And that to me is one of the absolute strongest points about it. Emotional scenes. The drama. There's more to it than just that of course (like mystery and TIME TRAVEL elements), but it's worth pointing out I think.

Well besides that, you have the obvious things like amazing and hilarious characters, the plot as a whole, the music (a few very good songs), the little extras such as achievements and TIPS. It certainly adds up. Characters like Kurisu and Okabe are damn good and memorable. They all are pretty much... but hey, you gotta have some favourites by the end right? Mine are Kurisu, Okabe, Faris and Amane... and yes, Daru is hilarious. Oh and the main theme music is brilliant. It's so perfect, because it just screams "STEIN'S GATE!". That's what a main theme should be like, right? That song and OP1 I guess are my favourites. Plus some others.

Didn't get 100% of all the achievements. Or not yet anyway. If someone tells me that it's definitely worth getting then I guess I will.

What else... ... ... just, S;G was fantastic. Loved it. In my top 5 now, almost certainly. I have to admit though, it's getting pretty tough to point out "top 5's" and whatnot. Because now I've read quite a few VNs that I think are amazing. But yea, S;G is up there somewhere at the top for sure. It's really memorable. A lot of it is thanks to the characters. That's how it usually is with these top tier titles.

[spoiler=Steins;Gate]

This is the choice of Steins;Gate.

Soo yeah...after some power reading, I also finished Steins;Gate today...and after what Harle said,I don`t have to add many things...for me it`s a clear 10/10 and definetly in my top 3 visual novels at this point. I just love it soo fucking much. And for those who have watched the anime and think about reading the novel(like I was before)...I can just say it is definetly worth the read.Well that`s it from me.

Done with KxKxK, finally. Gave it a 6.5/10. They should have named this game "Ice cream x Ice cream x Ice cream" because there is 1 "central ice cream route" and 1 shorter route. In other words, the core story is the same for all the 3 sisters (including the harem route), just different h-scenes. The characters were fun and Mafuyu is epic, but the whole structure is just lame. Also, way too many h-scenes, but maybe that's not a minus for some. Fandisc next, but I doubt it'll be any better.

Edit:

Fandisc 5.5/10. Mostly pointless with a fair share of nonsense at times. Only 1 route had some interesting "story" if you can call it that, other routes were kind of boring. A random parody character showing up was the highlight of the whole thing, go figure.

Done with Umineko...

If the words "EPIC" and "AWESOMENESS" had a child, I will say that child is this tale... (Specifically, the first four episodes and the last one...)

I really love how this VN was written and told... Very creative, I say...

I wonder Higurashi and Higanbana will offer me the same experiences as Umineko does?

I really glad it ended well...

Higurashi should be quite interesting for you... for obvious reasons. Though admittedly it would've been even better if you had read it before Umineko. Well it's very, very good in general anyway. At times, both Higurashi and Higanbana can feel similar to Umineko - probably because of the writing style itself. However their stories are still very different. So you won't get the same kind of experience as in Umineko.

Still, they're good. Really good. So you should definitely read both of them. Higurashi is the most important for you right now because hey, it's When They Cry 1 & 2. You've just finished When They Cry 3 & 4.

Ok, thanks...

One question though...

I've seen the titles of Higurashi series, so am I expecting the story goes on multiple worlds?

Only this time, worlds without the game against the witches, I guess?

Tsukihime completed. And, well, it was pretty good. I was at first a bit sceptic about the lack of voice-acting, but it ended up being just fine. Also, from now on Arcueid will live with me as my waifu #2. The hairy man has spoken :o

I think I'll go for something a bit lighter next, maybe MGQ3.

Oh, and btw, I managed to get my brother read F/SN from Youtube, and he really liked it. His favorite route was Fate, and like me, he didn't like HF that much.

I can't even imagine how much fun it must be to record an entire Visual Novel.

Even better if you actually want some QUALITY to it. Such as - not interrupt any of the voice acting and make the transition from each sentence to the next as smooth as possible, while also making sure that there's enough of a pause so that slower readers gets a better chance to catch it all. Depending on how long the scene is, you'll have to sit there and do it perfectly for X minutes while not getting interrupted by anything. If you get interrupted in any way, you might end up getting a long pause in the video or something, or you might screw up accidently and interrupt a voiced line. That will ruin some of the quality... And you don't want to just edit it out, because that will look and sound bad as well. The only times you can take a break is when the music stops and when the screen goes black/white for a scene transition.

I did this stuff for some Umineko videos. It does get easier once you've done it a few times, but those longer scenes (30+ minutes.......) can be pretty annoying.

It is nice to have videos like this on YouTube though. Easy way to experience some memorable scenes all over again without needing to start up the VN itself. But yea it should have some quality then. As far as image and sound quality goes, it should be as close to the game itself as possible. Because.... ... why the fuck not?

I showed him the YT version because I'm not going to suggest any porn for him. It's just one of those moral things I guess (but to be honest, for example GoT isn't that much less "perverted" than F/SN).

And yeah, I think it's pretty nice to able to watch some of my favorite scenes from YT with my tablet while I'm away from home.

Dunno if anyone noticed but I've been AWOL from the thread for a rather long time. Shortly after my post after I finished Sharin No Kuni my computer decided to have a mild stroke and wouldn't boot for a few months ironically when I finally sat down to do something about it it booted up fine like nothing happened. I had alot of backlog to work off tho. Most notably Grisia... I had actually intended to give a full breakdown of my thoughts on it at first but while typing it up it got way too long lol. My impression pretty much mirrors everybody elses it had me riveted to my seat for a solid 2 weeks lol. Route wise Sachi Amane and Makina were my favorites. Makina's in particular due to it mirroring one of my all time favorite movies The Professional. Yuuji being Leon Makina being Matilda and despite the owner being wrong Makina Apple seedling being Leon's Fern.

Makina's was the only bad end I read mainly because by the final choice I had decided that happy ending be damned her bitch of a mother needed to fucking die lol :) Granted she ends up being the new 9029 in both that bad version gave me a WTF?!? moment tbh. I mean training teenagers to be contract killers is one thing but putting a heavily pregnant girl who has conversations in her head with her dead lover and who is quite possibly keeping what's left of said dead lover in a plastic bag in her bakery is sketchy no matter how you slice it lol

On a final note Grisia is prolly one of the few VNs I've played that had blatantly under age heroines and didn't bother trying to hide being a disclaimer saying otherwise. The flashbacks in Sachi's route take place around her 9th (or was it 10th?) birthday. They avoid giving any specific dates in those flashbacks but they overlap with Amane's diary of doom which DOES list a specific year. That said if Makina and Sachi are the same age they are at BEST 17 in the present day.

After Grisia I gave Yumina The Etheral which was surprisingly good tho I didn't finish it I got a bit a burned out on it by the time I got through Kirara and Aoi's route. The final Boss fight of Kirara's route was frickin insane I spent like 2 hours on that fight alone trying to wait out the bastards cheap autoheal skill. I also made the mistake of not trying the hard setting after I unlocked it. I ended up losing the fights against the athletics club and the Class president a few timesbecause I was so overpowered that I kept killing them before I could get the required approval rating to actually win.

More recently I just finished AIR, Ayakashibito, and Hoshizora no Memoria. Air was a good read... tho Misuzu's route and the Air route were depressing as hell. A few quirks in the other routes also bugged me like I didn't quite understand why Kano's sister makes a point to say not to be too friendly with Minagi in front of Kano yet they never say why. I suppose it might have been the games way of telling you that at that point you could still deviate onto Kano's route.

Ayakashibito was great my only real complaint was it got a bit too rapey for my taste at times.

I do admit tho part of me almost wanted the thugs to try raping touko and have her body switch to her brother and scare the fuck out of them lol

I was actually playing Hoshizora before my computer died I had finished all but the Kosame Mare and mystery girl route but I lost power and my save file got borked and despite having their galleries full the game acted like I hadn't finished any of the routes. I readownloaded it and started from scratch last week my only complaint is that I've had Chinami's ONII-CHAN ONII-CHAN ONII-CHAN!!!!" stuck in my damned head ever since.

Currently I'm going through the Sharin No Kuni follow up disc I downloaded it when I posted last but I completely forgot I had it until recently. I've been through the Akutsu storyline it was indeed enlightening to see how Mr Hozouki ended up being such a twisted bastard at the same time it kinda took him down a peg for me.Mostly because it made it feel like he had no original thought in his head since everything that he did when he took over the town was just a variation of what he was put through by his predecessor. I will say tho that Ms. Hozouki was far more disturbing in nature but I think most of that was due to the fact that she looks identical to sweet innocent Mana lol.
