Decay 25
It's not something that will be easily available outside of Japan. I think for the time being they may only be selling the physical version at Comiket, but they may sell excess stock online. Keep an eye out, I guess.

jbeckman 19
Save 50% on eden* on Steam ( MangaGamer.com - eden* (download) ) Eden* has been released. And there seems to be something called Eden+ as well which is not all-ages. MangaGamer.com • View topic - Eden 18+ and Euphoria Oh and Cartagra got patched. MangaGamer Staff Blog » Blog Archive » Cartagra Patch EDIT: Seems MangaGamer did a mistake and the game is not meant to be available yet. OneManArmy 82
This was a mistake on our part. There was a confusion on steam's system where we just wanted to display the $19.99 price, and the only option we saw was this "Prepare for Release" button. We had a previous problem where Cho Dengeki Stryker wouldn't release without us pressing it even after the release date, and on the assumption that steam didn't allow us to release the games after their office hours, we went ahead and tried pressing this said button. eden* is not available at all at the moment. We are sorry about the confusion and we are trying to figure out what we can to resolve this issue. So it's not released yet BUT pre-ordering it for 50% the prize doesn't sound bad at all. killerinsidee 14
How the hell do they plan reach the money goal to fund the other minori stuff with 50% off? Decay 25
How the hell do they plan reach the money goal to fund the other minori stuff with 50% off? Hopefully it's not just wishful thinking on their part. You'd be surprised. Steam sales may not work great with MangaGamer's catalog, but they're an extremely effective way to increase revenue. With other kinds of games, discounting a game by 75% has been known to increase sales tenfold or more, which means more overall profit. I'm not sure a 50% launch discount is the smartest move, but their only successful Steam game so far (Go Go Nippon) sold a crapton of copies when it was discounted.
Some guy 16
How the hell do they plan reach the money goal to fund the other minori stuff with 50% off? Hopefully it's not just wishful thinking on their part. People will buy almost anything if it's on sale - even if they don't really know what they are buying. If it's marketed right, and catch a persons eye - ie: front page on Steam. EDIT: Why do you think so many broken/terrible games manage to make it onto Steam? Becuase if you sell something, there will always be a buyer. Edited November 4, 2014 by Some guy
killerinsidee 14
That is all good and great, but they would need 10,000 sales (at 50% off) just to hit the first goal, then 10,000 more to hit the 2nd. Of course, half of that at full price. I guess the first 10k is feasible, not really sure about the rest. (The minori fund-raising project - Help visual novel developer, minori, in completing the Supipara Series!) Edit: I still think they should have just made a "kickstarter grisaia project". That project will get a fuckton of money for sure (probably way more than MG's goals), while MG will be struggling with these sales just to prove some point. I want them to succeed and all that, but Sekai Project is doing it in a much simpler way and will probably have more success. (The minori fund-raising project - Help visual novel developer, minori, in completing the Supipara Series!) Ah I didnt know about that - that actually does sound pretty bad tbh. Either they aren't hitting sales (in general) enough to reach the goal, and in turn is a desprate ploy to bring more attention - or it hopes to waive off piracy. Typically MG has "always" charged based on length of a title - so its either short, or they done goofed. EDIT: Eden* - Short (2 - 10 hours) - VNDB That would be my guess on the pricing, tbh. If they think people will pay more then that for a title of that length, when Steam sells (terrible) VNs at the 15 - 20 range, then they would be kidding themselves. Their project goal might end up being abit too ambitous; the problem is they have to entice the demograph interested in VNs - and we are a pretty niche group already, I dunno if they could ever get enough money out of us even if they charged more. killerinsidee 14
They will probably reach the needed sales sales at some point, the key words being at some point . You can compare this to their "Koihime voice" goal, which was 2000 sales to include voices into the game. That took 1 year and some months. I doubt Supipara Chapter 1 will help all that much. Buying the 1st part of some game that may not ever be completed is a bit odd. This is why a kickstarter makes much more sense, there is a sense of urgency and if the goals are funded, you will know exactly if the game (Supipara) will be finished or not. What would happen in case only the 1st goal gets funded and the sales start to die out after they put out Supipara Ch.1? Eden* will get a lot of sales and people who supported Supipara in hope of eventual completion will feel a bit screwed over. Who knows what's going to happen to Minori in case this funding takes forever. They got really desperate to release something outside of Japan first. That's an awesome thing to do for us, but not as awesome for their main audience in Japan. They wouldn't even be considering this "strategy" if they weren't in deep shit. Hell, Minori was so xenophobic that they put some draconian game protections so that people outside of Japan can't play them. You pretty much can't even install Eden* if you're outside of Japan and whatnot. Yet now they are willing to let us play something first, that's kind of funny. We aren't as niche as we used too though. 10K sales is quite possible for a VN on steam, specially if it's on sales. A lot of games on steam make far more profit during sales that they do without sales.
riddle 11
"Crowd funding" with such big "scores" never end good, even so when we talk about episodes. And the next steam sale will be the winter one, hope they can get some sales then. still looks very hard to bring the game to a final close, and that will hurt minory even more in the long run. Shadolance 10
Overall from a marketing standpoint in the general anime/visual novel/manga industry, the stocks are going up, which is a correlation to higher demand. Generally that's a good sign, but the important part is platform. Platform is everything, and personally I think Steam is not the way to go. If there was a steam equivalent for visual novels, then it might be feasible. But as it is now, that is not the case. OneManArmy 82
So it's not released yet BUT pre-ordering it for 50% the prize doesn't sound bad at all. So in the end I did buy eden* for 9,99€, or rather said pre-ordered considering there's no way to install it, but suddenly I can't find eden* in the shop anymore. So right now I'm not sure if I'm a lucky bastard who took advantage of MG's mistake and only payed half the prize or if the game will be removed from my libary, I'll get the money back and have to buy eden* for the full prize again. Time will show I guess.
Chipp12 10
MangaGamer’s Go Go Nippon Has Sold Nearly 10,000 Copies How MangaGamer’s Visual Novels Ended Up On Steam Go! Go! Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
Platform is everything, and personally I think Steam is not the way to go. You probably should includes why you think Steam is not good for VN though. If there was a steam equivalent for visual novels, then it might be feasible. But as it is now, that is not the case. I thought one of the main points of putting it on Steam is to reach the mainstream, "casual gamer," and all that shit. What's the logic of selling it on a VN oriented platform that will only be known by the current niche community. . . ? riddle 11
MangaGamer’s Go Go Nippon Has Sold Nearly 10,000 Copies How MangaGamer’s Visual Novels Ended Up On Steam I did end up buying that on a sale... 10/10 game... I think steam did more to visual novels than any other kind of exposure till now, i see more and more people on youtube reach out for them after finding about them from steam, also a lot of steam curators are going for visual novels recomandations, though not very complex works, its a start. Some guy 16
My only problem (so far, until Higurashi/Grisaia come out) with Steam is they pump out the embaressingly BAD VNs - making the genre as a whole look worse then it actually is. I'm still really bitter about half-assed projects like Fading Hearts, or overly-sexualized, poorly written fluff like Sakura Spirit. Don't get me wrong - the VN scene is almost always incorperates a form of sexualization - it's stupid to think otherwise; but if presenting to a "Mainstream" crowd - you need to put on the kidgloves, so to speak~ (story>sexytime, etc) Speaking of Steam - Swords of Edo got greenlit, looks like itll hit jan '15; and is doing a final KS drive this month for stretch goals. alksjdf 14
That's been my issue with it too.
