Better or worse? As a general rule VN>>>anime. The most that an anime can do is to be good enough to be almost as good but i have never seen an anime better than a novel. VNHunter 12
how different is Yosuga no Sora the visual novel different from Yosuga no Sora the anime? Better or worse? Anime adaptation was good... but not that great... they showed the endings for each route and made one route Super Deformed... and it almost turned into a hentai series... just barely safe between being an anime and being a hentai... the Visual Novel was much better of course... Kai 55
Of course, unless the anime adaptation was done by Ufotable. I kinda gave up on anime when a discovered the VN world some years ago, so probably I'm not updated one the matter but isn't Kyoto Animation good too? I think that they did a very good job with Clannad, obviously it had some difference but it was faithful to VN most of the time
OneManArmy 82
As a general rule VN>>>anime. Well it really depends what medium you like more. It's obvious that an anime can't give you the same amount of details because it's most likely 12x20min or 20x20min so 240min-400min altogether while a Visual Novel is usually around 30h. So theoretically you would need 90-100 episodes for a real adaption BUT that would also mean to put all the inner monologues into the anime and that's just not going to work because an anime uses animations to make the story alive and not words like a VN does. On the other hand, for an anime it's easier to make fights alive while VNs need to use words and sometimes a very detailed description of a battle can destroy it. The anime adaptions Kyoto Animation made (Clannad, Air, Kanon) are pretty good in my opinion and I also enjoyed the first season of ef (the second season of ef not so much because they changed the story quite a bit and even left out one of the most emotional scenes of the VN because as we all know japanese people don't like sad anime). Of course I liked the Visual Novel more BUT I also enjoyed the anime...but as a different medium. Not sure if that made sense. tltr: Even after years I still don't see the sense in comparing VNs with anime adaptions since they are two different mediums with two different ways to tell a story. Honestly if more anime went the amagami route it would prob be better GnK for sure like Yumiko's route in the anime I don't even know what that was, Majikoi as well the anime was so disappointing and if they did just split routes as well it prob would have been more popular

ultimecea 22
Majikoi as well the anime was so disappointing and if they did just split routes as well it prob would have been more popular lol Majikoi never ever ever meant to be as an anime! its just some normal FS because they knew its no point adapting GOD-LIKE VN into anime Just look at Oretsuba >.> Its pointless.... lol only shitheads likes anime > vn when reading are more enjoyable then just watching BTW, this is the reason MLA cant be animated and i'm glad it stays that way Edited April 21, 2015 by ultimecea
Crucifixx 10
Lets get a Saya no Uta anime its short enough! But ye the depth of VN will always beat anime in most cases but lets be honest they could at least try and do justice to some of these adaptions the first Ef for example wasn't a bad representation of the VN but when they compile like 5 routes of a VN into 12 episodes of nothing that's when shit gets ruined. Also how g-senjou no maou isn't an anime yet is beyond me EDIT : The guy who translated Koi iro Chu! Lips is also working on a new project its not on the list "50% nailed! (Specifically 50.316% Lines). " hes half way the only hint he has given is that its an Alicesoft title. "I suppose I can say that it's not part of the Rance series, making it a different side of AliceSoft than what people are use to seeing." So its not rance and he said its a genre shift from koi iro so any guesses? http://denwatls.bravejournal.com/index.php Edited April 21, 2015 by Crucifixx
leonzell 14
YOU CANT NEVER EVER BEST ONE;S IMAGINATION!!!!!! as an avid light novel visual novel and book reader, that is one of the best sentences ever! also "one's" ...... when i go all caps i ignore letting go to get the ' like that as well. Also how g-senjou no maou isn't an anime yet is beyond me i would love an G senjou anime, also a sharin no kuni anime. or pretty much an anime from anything akabei soft 2 their visual novels are awesome..... from the 2 and a half that i've read (sharin no kuni and g senjou i read full, i didn't finish A profile) Edited April 21, 2015 by leonzell
OneManArmy 82
Lets get a Saya no Uta anime its short enough! I guess it has just way too much gore to get an anime adaption. I mean that tasty fridge scene alone is most likely enough to scare most people off so the anime wouldn't be very profitable. And hence there will be no anime. Also how g-senjou no maou isn't an anime yet is beyond me The problem with GSnM is the protagonist because they would need to show him without his face the entire time (like in VN) or else they would ruin one of the major plot twists. i didn't finish A profile It was shit. Or at least it's inferior to SnK and GSnM. Edited April 21, 2015 by OneManArmy

They may be 2 different mediums, and while i accept that there are good adaptations like Clannad or the new Fate there are much more that are unambiguously worse. Because of Tsukihime i almost skip anything related with type-moon and in the final chapter of Chaos Head they changed the weird powers into a Final Fantasy random encounter.
