Kyokuza 10
In my country they simply despise it without even looking at it... It kinda judging to look only a cover's without actually know the content. They called it a simple 18+games..(Including any other VN) I know it's the truth (maybe) but people need to start accepting... I don't know where the point of my ignorant rambling, But people in my country is to... owh damn.. i can't explain with word's Edited August 31, 2012 by Kyokuza

OneManArmy 82
In my country, most people don't even know what a VN is . It's in germany exactly the same situation. And if they see one than it's time for some biased opinions. I'm fine with it though, couldn't care less what other people are thinking about my hobbies.
Otamegane 10
In my country, most people don't even know what a VN is . in my country is the same.. not only that.. when you say someone "i watch anime" they inmediately say "Naruto?"
Kyokuza 10
Dat anime is pretty famous around my country. And i don't blame them for only knowing that anime which is pretty famous? "Naruto?"
phantasm 10
in my country is the same.. not only that.. when you say someone "i watch anime" they inmediately say "Naruto?" Yes,it is totally true in my country. kids aorund 8-9 years know pokemon.digimon 12-14 yrs boys know naruto and bleach For 16+,they watch detective conan and after passing 18 yrs,the anime becomes a kid entertainment for them. It is a man-made rule for animes in my country.
Avenger 11
I never watched anime as a kid (apart from Pokemon and Digimon, those were good days). I only know 1 person IRL who actually knows about anime. (That's not saying much as I don't know many people, but still).
Kyokuza 10
I never watched anime as a kid (apart from Pokemon and Digimon, those were good days). Agreed ^ except for digimon.. Maxar 13
In all honesty, I couldn't care less what opinions other people have about anything.. I did tell some people how I play VN's and they didn't even understand how a game could be made of only text to read. And none of the people around my age I know read anyway or can even speak english, so it is obvious that they wouldn't know about such games. And on a side note, I actually do find people around the age of 18 or higher with relationships and what not who like anime and don't think it is for kids and stuff.. But maybe I'm just lucky in that aspect..
Bane Doyle 10
I live in good old "Amurica" so the general reaction is: Most people: A what? Gamers: That's not a fucking game! People who know of anime but don't watch it: You mean porn? (... ok, half right I guess)

Crimson Moon 10
There is no such a thing as "age limit" when you enjoy something. Only narrow minded, ignorant or misled people think so. That's all i have to say on the matter.

Only narrow minded, ignorant or misled people think so. That's all i have to say on the matter. I don't think so. It's really inappropriate if a 7 seven years old boy playing a vn like bible black for example. -_- VN with a sexual content aren't for little kids.
Break 10
i think there is maybe a few thousand people in nz who know wat a vn is and maybe a few hundred who even read them most people i know who game dont know wat they are and blindly call it porn even if its all ages i just find it easier to read than normal books less time going over characters and setting

But the point is i only think not to look down on a VN reader and the VN itself (such as my country) . And yea Gerard i agree with you in terms of age ... ( I don't know if i post this right) most people i know who game dont know wat they are and blindly call it porn even if its all ages i just find it easier to read than normal books less time going over characters and setting I really agree with you there cuz i really hate people who only judge the outlook - not much to say though And yea i find it VN easier to read and can explain the atmosphere - but i'm not going to judge about novels and such. Hey its kinda like myself , i only watch pokemon and digimon when i was a kid. But only recently when i got into a new class at school i found a person who watch anime too! so glad that i was not the only one. Other than that i do not know of another person IRL that reads VNs....

Cross 12
Gabezhul (a very active mod and writer on vndb) wrote: Speaking of which, am I the only one who thinks that VNs -ARE- getting closer to the mainstream recently? Well, not in sales-statistics or advertisement, obviously, but in terms of medium recognition. With KS' media coverage and more and more anime-fans realizing that some of their beloved series' are just adaptations, VNs are getting way more recognition than a few years ago, especially in the western-otaku demographic. Dare I say, we are in the same position right now as anime and its fans were in the late nineties. I wonder if we are heading down the same way as well... link I agree, Katawa Shoujo could be a turning point for VNs. I wouldn't speak about "mainstream", but at least VNs could be less freaky in some time. Edited September 4, 2012 by Cross admin and mod confused
udizzle 11
we need to get everyone here on the forums to live in a single community so that we can finally have peers with the same interest
OneManArmy 82
I personally prefer a smaller community. Visual novels being mainstream has its benefits but I would rather keep it as something weird/special. This makes it more likely to meet people who're really into this kind of thing, so people like me. But that's just me.

There's a lot of example where things got fuck up and ruined once they have wider and bigger audience. Edited September 3, 2012 by Gerard the Lone Wolf

Do you think i'm saying "Let's allow children playing eroge" , here ? I'm talking about an age limit to stop enjoy things you appreciate. Thought that was obvious.
