I, in general, remember the sad ending for a very long time, examples include F/sn Fate route end, Clannad after story (first play through) end. Thus they have a stronger and longer lasting emotional impact. Happy ending are easier on the nerves but you don;t really remember them (unless they are confusing as hell I.E. the endings in Kanon)

I have to agree, without books life is not worth living. Ask my already big and growing collection of books and manga (probably have close to $1,000.00 worth of stuff that i bought on there). I agree the Elfen Lied manga is a bit difficult to get through, Still my favorite though.
