As per tradition.... ...yet, somehow I forgot to do a 2018 thread. Anyway! It can reset to this year. For every year moving forward, I will make a thread of the top anime in the previous year. I might not be watching anime like I used to, but I still stream the first episodes of new seasonal shows whenever they air (check the EG Discord for announcements!). Unlike 2017 since this is a 2 years thread, I will only list what I think is the one top anime of a season instead of three. Don't worry, while I did not watch a lot I still tried at least one episode of MOST anime in a season, so I think I can predict which one is the best. -2018- WINTER: Violet Evergarden While there are many other entries worth mentioning in this season like Overlord 2 or the infamous Franxx, Violet Evergarden ultimately take the place for being consistent, one of Kyoto Animation studio's highest trait in their anime. Kokkoku has high expectation but fell extremely flat. A Place Further Than The Universe might be the dark-horse runner-up this season, however I did not watch it. SRRING: Hinamatsuri Some people will automatically say My Hero Academia Season x is the best shit ever was, but I honestly don't think it is much better than the typical shounen (source: manga reader). It's good and hyped, but not worth the best of the season spot. Imo Hinamatsuri on the other hand brings in a very fresh take on comedy and can be totally tearjerker at time. An anime that make you relax after a hard day at work/school, or reflect about your life and actions. The manga went more in-depth than the anime, but if you just want something to enjoy then the anime is plenty enough. SUMMER: Grand Blue You expected Attack on Titan 3? Well, while it was good it was also how I expected it to perform, so it did not leave a special memory on me (Part 2 is a different story later). Grand Blue got the perfect combination of ecchi, comedy, and alcohol that you all will enjoy, with the cast of characters mostly entry college students. No more of that club/locker romance bullshit heh. Asobi Asobase is also worth mentioning as one of the wildest comedy I've watch. Just take a look, a gif cannot simply portray everything: FALL: SAO Alicization I am expecting flame, but hear me out. I think that SAO has what it takes now to be a decent anime, actually. A-1 has start improving their animation and use more CGI in places to increase the feel of the show. This use of effects was first seen in the SAO movie Ordinal Scale. While not consistent (like in Alicization Part 2) this does make the show feels a lot nicer and look amazing. Here is an ED of Alicization 2 to showcase the high quality effects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGUroMhu1M0 Other notable shows included Bunny Senpai (which I super like as well, for the heavy dialogue similar to Haruhi), Tensei Slime for a decent isekai experience, Goblin Slayer (but White Fox's animation game has been D tier these days), and Zombieland Saga for the explosive introduction to the series. -2019- WINTER: The Promised Neverland This is a hard one. Well, putting Shield Hero away as a potential pick was easy enough, since while it was an alright isekai it was not anymore exceptional than Slime Tensei, etc. The other tough contender is Mob Psycho 100 II for an absolute BANGER trip, and honestly could easily win this season as well. But if I have to pick one, I would give it to The Promised Neverland for doing the psychology aspect really well. Super recommended if you are looking for a creepy, big brain anime. SRRING: Attack on Titan 3 Part 2 From popularity alone, perhaps it should've go to Demon Slayer. Ufotable always does a good job with extraodinary animation, and now with a decent shounen plot? You can guess what a solid package Demon Slayer is. However, AoT 3 Part 2 did it for me this season, by connecting all the plot points hinted since fucking season 1, and then wrapped it up for an upcoming sequel. The best part? It is not even hyped; AoT is no longer the story about slaying titans and Eren being a bitch. AoT has ascended beyond being a shounen flavor of the season, and has delve into being possibly one of the greater series of the decade. Season 3 Part 2 is that turning point. [video=youtube_share;hQuG-PdVJDc] SUMMER: Vinland Saga Another pretty tough season, as many shows have great potential. Dr. Stone is a very interesting post-apocalyptic anime, and so is the informative (and lewd) Dumbbell anime. But I will give Vinland Saga for the decent adaptation and for being a great tale of time. Recommended for those who are looking for an adventurous journey of time. FALL: Babylon "Wtf is Babylon", you asked. Once again, we are in the predicament of choosing the generic popular favorite My Hero Academia vs. choosing another show worth the spot too. SAO Alicization Part 2 doesn't feel that good anymore, and the other shows are unfortunately pretty mediocre. However, one show stood from them all, being pretty obscure while showing a good and solid cast of characters and progression: Babylon. Show looks super rich in quality, and moved along quite nicely for a detective/crime anime. Finally I can look forward to solving mysteries in an anime. CONCLUSiON Best anime 2018: Violet Evergarden Best anime 2019: Attack on Titan S3 Part 2 Hope to see you next year~

With the fall of Rabbit, there is not a really good replacement for sharing videos, especially anime, online and watch it with your friends. Many options are often too restrictive and don't support much websites, or require you to have the video file downloaded, screenshared, and in some other cases, uploaded. Using CyTube and a trick to grab videos from anime sites, you can bypass most of these inconveniences. What is CyTube? It's a website to let you host videos and watch it together with your friends online. Only supports some common video sites. You don't need to have an account to join someone's channel, but you do need one to create a channel. Check here for the FAQ and here for the interface guide. So how does it work? I did the above in Opera, but any Chromium-based browsers should work. Didn't try on other browsers like Firefox but I'm pretty sure you can do it as well, just under a different name instead of Inspect Element. However, this method is also not problem-free. Some issues can be frustrating: 1. Many hosts and anime sites block you from ever using Inspect Element to grab links. You will often see no link appearing even when you play the episode. 2. Even if the link appears, you might have to deal with a garbage/protected link. You can play the episode/video in New Tab, but it won't work when you add it on CyTube (CyTube will display a red error). 3. Even after adding it to CyTube and it works, you might have to deal with a laggy source (video buffering constantly, plays for a bit then breaks, etc.) If it does not work with X anime site/host, what should I do? Unfortunately, the answer is simple and tedious: Try with a different site/host. Luckily, many exists and can be found on this anime/manga/LN site tracker. EDIT 4/4/20: As of late, it is increasingly difficult to find a host that allow you to grab episode direct links. In these times, I have switch to using programs that can screenshare (like Discord). Still no good replacement for Rabbit in sight :\ EDIT 8/13/20: There are now two more new players that might actually contest the title of a Rabbit replacement - Kosmi and Tutturu. Check them out below where I went a bit over their features and what they support. EDIT 2/10/21: Replaced the obsolete r/animepiracy anime sites thread with /r/animepiracy Index which is a piracy sites tracker for where to watch anime and read manga/LNs online (with details such as if said sites allow downloads). If you have an alternative method, feel free to let me know!

MangaDex and Tachiyomi - Where should I read manga?
kn1000a replied to kn1000a's topic in Manga Lobby
Gonna add some official options too for people who wanna read manga online for free. Yes, official and free is a thing now. 3. MangaPlus by Shueisha Basically Manga Jump but digitized and free, with titles such as Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, Promised Neverland, Spy X Family, along with some classics like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto, etc. The web version work with both phone and PC browsers, and they even have an Android/Apple app. Do take note that not everything is free; most manga are usually free the first 3 chapters and the latest 3 chapters. The missing in-between will requires a subscription of a few dollars. Though also remember this doesn't happen to all manga; some are free from chapter 1 to the latest. But other than that, it is a pretty neat concept and a big step in free, legal manga services. The latest chapters on MangaPlus are released simultaneously as the Japanese version, so you can read it as soon as Japanese readers get their hand on the chapter, for free. 4. WEBTOON This is more for the manwha (Korean manga) and fan-created webcomics. Don't be mistaken, some of these fan-created comics are super good so it's not just another site spammed with 12-years old fanfiction-to-comic works. The diverse content on this site, from genres to country of origin, is a pretty sight to behold. The site houses some really nice manhwa/webcomics such as the recently popular Random Chatting (hailed as the Korean OreGairu), True Beauty, Tower of God, Mage & Demon Queen, The Gamer, etc. Chapters usually come around weekly, and they will let you know when certain chapters or sequels came out. Unlike MangaPlus, all chapters and manga are free, so read to your heart content. It's definitely not a service that was paid-now-free like MangaPlus, but it is regardless an official outlet for fans to read their manhwa and webcomics. People do read these series on other aggregator sites anyway, even if these are free for life on here. I just want to shed light onto these services as I'm sure they're unpopular but don't deserve to be. Hopefully the manga industry will be able to resolve its difference with free services like this, and I'll add more to this list when there are more popping up~ -

Games on EG are usually held to a very high standard. However, I'm not sure if Ivan missed this one or didn't check it, because this game is basically a MTL. ...just to name a few.

I think you'll like it That Girl Is Not Just Cute (Title) - MangaDex
Didn't know you like to collect VNs soundtracks :0 Not VN but I'll suggest the Haruhi OSTs, top-notch stuff. On par with VN OSTs imo.

MangaDex and Tachiyomi - Where should I read manga?
kn1000a replied to kn1000a's topic in Manga Lobby
The MangaDex staff just did an AMA on Reddit today. Check it out to see common questions and insight to how they operate the site~ This is also the description they used in the AMA for the site's features, in case my description above is lacking: -
Since a lot of people read manga online, I thought that I should let more people aware of the options available right now. No, this is not paid advertisement. These services are simply too good and I wanna spread them so more people know. If you are wondering where can you read manga for free (of course, this means they're illegal. But this is a pirating VN site anyway...), there are currently two places that are superb at what they do: 1. MangaDex Launched just last year after Batoto died, MD is a god-tier site to read manga on. No ads, no annoying pop-ups, no shitty interface. The site is also optimized for your phone's browser. If you are reading on KissManga, or MangaHere, etc. (basically aggregator sites), then you are reading indirectly from MD since those sites steal from MD most of the time. The site has your typical features - forums, profile, blocked genres you don't want to see, scanlators' detail page (big exposure for the people who brings fan-translated manga to you), top chapters in the past 6hr/24hr/7days, and some more incoming as they are still developing the site constantly. They even made their own manga version of the tutorial to their site. Such a perfect site sounds too good doesn't it? That's correct, because there is one big downfall to using MD: They don't have some manga on their site. Before you are disappointed, no, I can safely say the amount of manga on this site is still HUGE. But, as they want to avoid DMCA rules, they do not allow users to upload the ripped scans of licensed manga. If the fans want to translate the manga themselves and upload, good, it will be allowed. But they simply can't reupload the pages from an official translation. Another thing is fallouts with some scanlator groups that resulted in them leaving the site, thus pulling the manga with them. What this means in the long run: MD will lack some manga. However, the benefits and usability of the site is simply too good of an offer for me that it outweighs the drawback. But if you choose not to read on MD, that doesn't mean you are out of luck and have to read on those malware, ad-filled sites/apps. That's where #2 comes in: 2. Tachiyomi An open-sourced GitHub app, this is the best manga app right now in my opinion. Sharing the same characteristics as MD (no ads, and good interface), the app pulled from many sources such as MD, Mangakalot, MangaNelo, MangaHere, among with even hentai sources like E-hentai, Nhentai, etc. Naturally, that means you can search for any manga you like, especially the ones not on MD. Like many other manga apps, Tachi of course also has a chapter update notification, auto-save where you last read, backup setting, and some more interface/reading control settings. A good feature I found useful is transferring a manga between sources by the click of a button. If you read on any manga app, you would know how painful it is to see your manga with broken pages, then having to search it up in another source and favorite it, then deleting the old one. Tachi does this seamlessly just by some check-boxes. Of course, something sounding this perfect would not be without negatives. Like MD, Tachi also have some major drawbacks: 1) Being on Android only and 2) Not being on the Google Play Store. 1 is self-explanatory, but for 2 that means you have to tweak some settings on your Android device to install apps outside of the Play Store. The app is safe, and many people use it, so don't worry about it being a malware. But if you like, feel free to look around and see it yourself if you should trust the app or not. EDIT 8/15/20: As of my latest post, there is an iOS manga app that is totally ad-less called Paperback. Read the post down below for more info. Why should I consider reading/migrating here? What do they do better that other places don't? Aside from those above features (the biggest being ad-less and interface), MD is very supportive of scanlators. If you did not know, every manga that were fan-translated came from one scanlator or a group of them. It is not MangaRock or KissManga who translates, edits, and releases the chapters, so it's pointless asking them (I see a lot of people begging them to release more on those sites). Everyone is a thief here, reading and scanlating manga illegally, but these aggregator sites and services want your money even if they steal as well. Lots of scams and misleading information (which KissManga is known to be doing the most). Benefiting from piracy is a practice I personally frown upon. Paying the pro version of that one manga app or donating to an aggregator site DOES NOT make the chapters come out faster or nicer. You are just supporting their business that operates on stealing fan-translated works. Plus, why have Adblock and read on a badly-looking app/site while you can read on a place without ads and with a nice interface? As for Tachi, being with no ads means you can get all kinds of manga you read on those aggregator sites without supporting them at all. Why are MD and Tachi ad-less? MD runs off of donations to their site which is why they don't have to rely on ads (yes, you heard that right. Ads can be turn off if those other sites choose to). As for Tachi, I am not sure as there are no official statement. But I assume that probably because it is a hobby, open-source project, or because it is still in constant development. If anyone has a source for Tachi, let me know. Of course, that is one of the main reasons I use these two services; I don't want to support those other shady scams. But if this and the benefits of these places are not appealing to you, or if you have such a MASSIVE amount of bookmarks, feel free to look elsewhere or keep using what you are using (I migrated to MD and Tachi roughly 800 bookmarks, manually). I am simply showing how awesome they are and that everyone should give them a try. Honestly peaked quality services right here. Thanks for checking them, and feel free to leave questions.
