If suddenly 2 or 3 projects are completed by mid 2014, you'll all say "ou mai gadz, ze dark aigez haz com to an endz!"

No, those are probably the projects we've been waiting for since 2009-2011. lol

I guess the proper question would be how many active translation projects started on 2013? (and wasn't from Fuwa)

Alright, simply due to me being dogshit tired of not having enough translation groups, I'm putting up flier around UC Berkeley to put a team together for this stuff. I'm a programmer (CS major) with a lot of free time this year surprisingly, and Berkeley has 20K+ students. I'm sure I can find someone, wish me luck.

also when did the VN started to be translated, i only started to read them in 2008/09. did i miss much?

I could say that this is like asking when did people start translating games (not visual novels).

Answering anyways. You could simply go to vndb and add filters for english as languages and japanese as original language and get what you wanted to know. It doesn't matter if it was an oficial release, it is STILL translating a visual novel

Exactly what I was thinking. The "VN TL situation" didn't get suddenly worse, it sucked all along. :>

............mind blown

Finished making the fliers. I'm calling for a team of 20 people to translate 3 games at once. I'm going to head it. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it. (Room mate scoffed at me)

Baldr Sky plz~

that's not the kinda shit you should be doing man, not only will it earn you a bad rep, but I doubt people will do it for free. You should be looking on the internet, not on the streets.

Objection! There really were better times in the golden past of vn-translations! I remember Ryuu posting a link to an older status update post, around christmas 2012... there were around twice a many updates as we got now,

If suddenly 2 or 3 projects are completed by mid 2014, you'll all say "ou mai gadz, ze dark aigez haz com to an endz!"

and three completed projects in one week (and I guess the list was shorter, but I haven't counted that). And now people say it's an accomplishment to have 3 competed projects in what? a quarter??

insane-mode switch turns on...

less project updates per week > less new translated vn's > less energy > death > we will all die > whaaaaaa!!!

insane-mode switch turns off...

Though I am interested in the reasons for this development, I think (and hope) that, if more of the big active translators vanish, someone else will fill the gap and take their place. This community has grown far too big to stay in a slump for more than 2 years (I hope).

And in that regard, applause for Helvetica Standard and Chocolatemilkgod (and their companions), who fight heroically against the decline of status updates.

You guys complaining about lack of VNs...back in my day we waited like 1 year every time a new game popped up on g-collection's / jast's sites.Waiting shitloads of time to play Family Project lol.

Seriously, We have a lot more translated stuff than we used to have 10 years ago.Back when I started playing VNs, there were only the really old games, like True Love, Paradise Heights, Nocturnal Illusions and shit like that, plus a few nukiges by g-collections.

Someone who starts to get into VNs now, has stuff to read for quite a bit of time.

Nowadays, Family Project might be "shitty", because we have lots of higher profile games that were either fan translated or got an official translation, but back in the day, it was very hyped up.They were advertising it as one of the best visual novels ever made, and to be completely honest, comparing to what we had back then, it was indeed one of the best novels, mainly because it was one of the rare non nukige ones.

Family Project is one of the better titles from Jast. The girls are pretty well written (especially Loli, emotionless girl and Tsundere), the common route has an actual topic (human relationships, family, working together to survive) and Wakamoto is one of the VA (fans squealing??).

The only real fault are the routes, or better to say epilogues. They are just too short.
