Haika 12
Just finished up Ayamine's route in Muv Luv. Was quite awesome, and I'm still chuckling over this one sentence: I shouldn't find it nearly as amusing as I do. She kind of reminds me of Rin from Katawa, but without the breakdown of personality that Rin seemed to have in her route. Kei's storyline really seemed to feel correct compared to the others. (She's also in my mind, the hottest heroine in this game, mostly due to that little cloth choker thing, very hot.) I also love the sort of turn around this storyline puts on the whole choosing dilemma that has been strong in all the other routes. Anyway, on to Marimo and the normal endings, somehow I don't see these taking all that long. The walkthrough I've been using even calls Marimo's ending a 'bad end'. So we will see how long it takes me to get to unlimited. Edit: Well that was quick, really didn't take long at all with the skip function. Guess I was expecting a bit too much out of those endings. Bit of a shame that Marimo doesn't get a full route, but I can totally see why that random H-scene could be considered a Bad End. Onwards to Unlimited. Haika 12
Finishing up Muv-Luv Unlimited now(Finished Sakaki's endings), and other than a bit of a translation issue, I'm just not impressed. In Extra each route brought something different, even if the two boring 'main heroines' were closely connected the others all had divergent experiences and seemed to have a greater impact on the final result. Here in Unlimited things seem to be this constant bleak darkness with very little purpose, and the choice of who you are with is only barely different with each ending other than an H-scene. I'm stuck on a technical issue for the moment, but if they are all as similar as I expect the ending is kind of a complete let down after all the fun the common route gave. In reality the more I think about Sakaki's ending the more unsatisfied I am with it. There was this odd goofyness in the H-scene that kept bugging me as well, in what should have been an awesome shower scene, I'm left wondering why in the world she is wearing her glasses, or that totally cheesy line about 'Feeling something crimson flow down my thigh'... I know what they were saying, but how exactly do you feel a color... The total disregard for Extra and that world here I think is the issue I'm mostly having. In the end, he just abandons everything, doesn't even bother telling the woman he loves about this, and it's all just ignored. The way the story went and using it as such a powerful plot point, it just seems bogus that if falls apart like that. This bothered me a bit earlier with the Game Guy. It seems like it should have been more of a point with being something so totally different from the ruined world's tech. Yet it was only used in that one small arc with Meiya. That said, I still don't know all the details of the final ending, as I said before, there's that translation stuff holding me back a bit. I still have hope that the Yuuko route or however you wish to call it, will explain a bit more and not leave me feeling so disappointed. Otherwise, I guess I can only look to Alternative as that hopeful positive resolution I'm wishing for. Edited December 9, 2012 by Haika
desi 53
I think Alternative will answer some of the criticisms you have.... but judging by some of your comments, it might also bring upon other criticisms lol. Either way, it's definitely on a much more epic and grand scale. Interested to see your reaction to Alternative when it's all said and done. Have fun.
Haika 12
Argh, I've never been quite so frustrated with a novel as I am with this... Finished up Meiya's route, after realizing the end is EXACTLY THE SAME, I thought maybe I'd figure something out with the 'yuuko' route. But no... pointless. They might as well not even bother calling it an ending to me it's that same sort of feeling I get when a really good show pops up a 'to be continued' message. None of these endings feel right, they all feel incomplete to me. I know it's supposed to be a bitter-sweet story in general, but it seems to clash a bit with the experiences I've had from Extra and even the common route here in unlimited. At this point I'm likely going to just drop unlimited completely and move straight to Alternative. Unless my walkthrough is missing a Kasumi route or something, Ayamine and Tama's routes all end with the same question and choices so I don't really expect it to be any different. And Mikoto still feels weird after playing through Extra... xD At this point the only thing that would interest me in these routes is the H-scenes. So maybe I'll do them later when I'm in a more porn type mood. Right now what I want most is answers, and I'm just not getting the closure here that I'm wanting. Gerard the Lone Wolf 10
and other than a bit of a translation issue, , there's that translation stuff holding me back a bit. Care to elaborate more about the translation?
Haika 12
Care to elaborate more about the translation? Ahh, sorry. I was missing some of the untranslated audio text files in my download. I downloaded Extra and Unlimited in January of this year, and I don't know if I misplaced the text file for that ending monologue, or what happened, but they wern't in my game folder like they should have been. Desi helped me out in the tech support part of the forum so I was able to read it, and it didn't really amount to anything that important anyway. Still quite disgusted with the way Unlimited 'ended'. But I'm feeling much better and interested once again in starting up Alternative. The main story from Unlimited and now Alternative with the parallel worlds type thing is really interesting to me. Even if the ending on Unlimited sucked, and the 'main' routes in Extra seemed boring, I can easily see why this series of games is rated so highly. Even if I end up hating alternative, I don't regret playing them.

Great, Alternative will give that to you, and much more. Again, it is Alternative that is the really amazing VN here. Muv-Luv is the board being set up, while Muv-Luv Alternative is the game being played. It is the main story that you're speaking of that truly matters here. It'll be continued in Alternative, in a highly entertaining fashion. Expect many memorable moments to occur. Enjoy!
Haika 12
I plan to. Thanks for the support. Though I kinda wish I had a walkthrough or a chart or something to help me with the choices here. My own search has revealed that alternative only has a single route, with very little change in it as you go along. Even still, it's been ages since I've played a VN without a guide showing me at least a basic map of how to control my choices. It feels like I'm going to miss things by just choosing blindly, even if I know that's how VNs are supposed to be played.

Their purpose is basically just to change the dialogue a bit sometimes. It's a linear story, yes. Don't expect any major differences from the choices you make. That said... If there is a girl you like more than the rest, then I'd advice you to pick whatever choices along the way that has to do with her at least. We'll just leave it at that. But again, don't worry about it too much. You won't miss anything really important by picking one choice over the other. Edited December 9, 2012 by Harlequin
iLoveTsundere 10
Agreed. If youve beaten Unlimited once , you can definately get on with Alternative.

Yeah unlimited has only one route and the ending is mostly the same whatever girl you choose, but some scenes do change. For example you need to see the class rep version of the game guy scene, it was hilarous. By the way, I'm playing Otoboku right now. I was a little cautious about the trap thing but it's very good. Surprisingly, some CGs aren't decensored eventhough it's a MG release.

Extra and Unlimited are just a prologue to Alternative, now I understand that very well. I don't have too many bad things to share about Unlimited like Haika-san, but I can't deny that it left me with a "This is it?" though at the end, even if the last scenes were really emotional and powerfull. Let's just say that Extra has like 10% of the story, Unlimited has another 15% and Alternative has the remaining 75%. What surprised the most about Alternative was the focus on a single heroine (I will not tell you any spoilers, don't worry) and she happened to be my favorite one, so this definitely helped a lot. Not to mention the soundtrack, it's absolutely epic. At the end of the day the ending of Alternative was not the best it could be, but this doesn't take away too many points from the whole experience. Take care and prepare to see hell. PS: My favorite visual novel now is Muv-luv Alternative, replacing G-senjou no maou.
iLoveTsundere 10
Pretty much what he said in a nutshell , and i agree with the very end part , was pretty much anti-climatic , could be better executed though in hindsight it makes sense that it ended like that. evollove 10
Sengoku Rance. Can't get enough of it, sure it gets repetitive, but the MC and the pace of the story is so much more enjoyable than Kamidori IMO, and the good thing is I can stop reading at any point when I'm busy. Having a good, long rest before reading my next serious VN after Clannad. The VNs in my HDD still unread are starting to pile up. Otoboku, Ever17, Never7, Tsukihime, Chaos;Head, Steins;Gate and Kamidori still at Chapter 6 on the loli route, School Days almost downloaded (finally!). Enjoying my dose of weekly anime releases (Chuunibyou, LB!, Tonari, Sakurasou) and NOT enjoying working on my bachelor thesis.
