Still working my way through Clannad, finished up Yukine's route, then move into Tomoyo's. After that got distracted the last couple of days reading some manga and playing dragon age.

Yukine's route really reminded me of Lilly from Katawa. I know Clannad came far earlier, but the atmosphere of that reference room seemed so familiar to that tea room in Katawa. The girl herself is only slightly like Lilly as far as personality, but I think it's more the calming nature of relaxing tone that really resonates with me.

Of course this being Clannad and all ages, it feels like everything ended abruptly. :p This route reminded me EXACTLY why I dislike playing all ages stuff, everything stops when it should have just been starting. This is partly why I went to Tomoyo's route next, tired of this teasing and have Tomoyo's After ready to go if I get the same irritation.

playing snow sakura. Another faceless protagonist. sigh

Faceless protagonist ain't a problem yo. :p

can't say much about the characters since i just started, but the perverted male friend is getting on my nerves and so is saki. Maybe i set the bar too high because i just finished reading little busters

You should have listen to me and go play the rest of the games that I told you to play long time ago. Heh! (coincidentally, all the protagonist has face...) Well, perhaps mediocre VN like Snow Sakura is more suitable for you I guess. :)

Actually, Yukine is probably the only "heroine" with that sort of abrupt ending. Although she is in the cover of Clannad (rumor was she was supposed to be one of the main heroines), she is really just a side character and not considered one of the main heroines. All-age really has nothing to do with it. I think you'll see when you play Tomoyo's ending how much more realistic and natural it is compared to other 18+ routes.

To be honest, I had the same sort of unsatisfied resolution with the Kyou/Ryou routes as well. Though those did tend to give a bit more. It just saddens me more that Yukine is considered a side character... I'm obviously not finished with the game yet, and I still think it's great. I loved it as an anime, and despite all my complaints about it being all ages, I'm still playing it. I think it would be far worse if I was indifferent about the storylines.

I think my complaints boil down to the fact that I'm an adult, sex is part of being an adult, and having an adult relationship. I don't really want a crude porn flick, nor do I want this safe and secure in family land. I crave that balance between adult situations and experiences, without losing the grip of a decent story. It's a very hard balance to find.

Im also an adult. In fact , im probably one of the oldest people here , and frankly H scenes in SOME visual novels only deter the momentum of the story. Clannad would be an example of why H scenes in my opinion would ruin it because yeah , youre caught up in feels and then suddenly H scene. That was just an example of course , but as an adult i can say that the lack of H scenes in VNs that only have the all ages version up doesnt bother me , and in some case (like Clannad) would only harm it. Hell im not even sure if Little Busters EX will make it worse with the H scenes or if i should just go for Little Busters ME edition.

im for one cant see how Tomoyo's route to be uninteresting >.>

She have one of the most dramatic route if not the most dramatic in that VN//

and when you decided to drop Clannad...

how many routes have you gone over???

To be honest, I had the same sort of unsatisfied resolution with the Kyou/Ryou routes as well.

I thought Kyou route end perfectly well,,,

in fact...

she was the 2nd heroine i liked the most in that VN >.>

[spoiler=About Ryou] Ryou route is a troll...

she's nothing but the worst choice you could have in the VN..

so..you can actually read Kyou's route instead since Kyou's route were like the continuation of Ryou

It just saddens me more that Yukine is considered a side character...

so??

there were times that most chara that we liked actually being a side chara...

take Edelwiess for a part..

remember that Sakura and Rin dont have a route until they make that Eden Fantasia..

or Hilko >.>

i believe that majority of us here is an ADULT

and not all thinks that H scene is an important plot that all VN must have...

as a matter of fact..

I believe most people here prefer a good script over excessive skin exposure..

because you better go for a NUKIGEinstead of reading the GOD-TIER VN >.>

with exceptions for those no life being that only searching for fapping materials~~

anyways...i have just 1 advice for you

Go and read Tomoyo's route properly..

start from scratch if possible..and dont sleep until you finish up her route

and if you still complains by the end of credits..

you can start jumping down a hill or any 60storey building (whichever is nearer)

since you complains that Tomoyo were the one that make you distracted..

(i wont responded if it was other heroine >.>)

I know well the issues with random H scenes in good VN's, Fate/Stay Night comes to mind, and how out of place those seemed to be tacked on. I'm not trying to say that Clannad should in particular be explicit, it probably would ruin it if we go by standard experiences. However, I still feel like I'm missing something that could be there(and could be done properly), if that makes any sense.

It was more Yukine's ending, and partly Kyou and Ryou that had me feeling a bit meh about it all. I have nothing against Tomoyo, and rather like her as a character, just haven't been able to finish her route properly yet because of the holidays and I like playing VN's with larger stretches of free time. I haven't dropped it at all, like I said, even with all these complaints, I'm still playing and enjoying it for the most part.

Also, I don't think that H-scenes are vitally important plot points for all VN. However, Clannad in particular is primarily based around romantic relationships, and romantic relationships(to me at least) should have a part in showing skin as it was mentioned. Without the love life premise, Clannad would have very little to go on. I just don't think there's much story there otherwise. Except for a few cases like Fuuko and Misae(so far anyway), those two have special stories that only vaguely even need romance at all. Because of that, I didn't feel slighted at all because there was no H-scenes. I loved those routes and still do.

But, in the other heroine routes(Ryou/Kyou/Yukine) the storylines cut off abruptly. As soon as the relationship becomes confirmed, the story is dropped like a hot potato, because the rating is all ages and they can't show anything explicit. That's the part that bugs me, especially with Yukine's route because it felt like we barely even got to know her(makes sense with the whole side character thing). Some people might say that it's all in the hunt, but in reality, the story doesn't just end like that.

Compounding this fact is the ecchi manga I was reading yesterday, that is 99% sex tease, so I may be a bit irritated in these posts. I'm also reminded of horrible experiences I've had with translators turning fully adult games into all ages stuff(Eien no Aselia).

Sex scenes or no sex scenes, that is the question

I read through the comments and wanted to write something...

And then I realized that Haika pretty much said everything I wanted to say, duh.

So yeah, sex scenes are nice IF they're placed correctly; so in the right game at the right time.

It was more Yukine's ending, and partly Kyou and Ryou that had me feeling a bit meh about it all.

I totally understand what you're talking about, I didn't like those routes either.

I am on the opposite side of the spectrum. I dont need to see an H scene to know people are in love or that they are having sex. You can easily hint at sex without "OOOOOO harder". I understand that some games are eroge so they have H scenes that is whatever to me. I just dont see a need for you to see someone actually having sex to know that it is happening or that they are love. Plenty of movies and other forms of media hint at that without actually showing it because the audience can easily grasp that they are in love or having sex. Visual Novels have even more of a chance to do this because they are much longer than a movie (Well for the novels we are discussing at the moment.) In fact I know a visual novel that hints at them having sex without showing it and it works perfectly. I guess it is whatever floats your boat but my opinion is that you dont need an H scene to know that they are in love.

Now for the novel I am still reading Rewrite but I must must add that Chiwa Sait is my favorite voice actress (Thank you Tsun) probably in any novel because of Kotori. It feels like she came up with all the lines herself randomly during recording rather than following a script. It just feel so unique I guess would be the word. Really enjoying this game much more than I believed I would (I dont trust the hype for a Key novel). Unfortunately have heard bad things about her route but we shall see.

Welp, finally got the time to finish Tomoyo's route in Clannad. And after all the discussion here in this thread over the past few days, I'm at the point where I'm not sure if I want to play Tomoyo after, or continue on and finish up the other routes in Clannad's main game first. I do feel better about this route than I did the other 3 I was feeling unfinished with, maybe because it seemed a bit more relaxed(other than the stupid 'dragging her down' theme) when they are together.

I still have to go through Kotomi, Mei, Kappa, and Dango girl's paths(along with after story), to finish up the main game. But, it makes logical sense to try and play Tomoyo After now, so I'll likely give that a shot and see how things go.

only 1 advice...

you'll get mindfucked when you reach the true end of Tomoyo After...

and the amount of trolling will make you quit Clannad

so..its better to read thru everything...

and get the after story first before Tomoyo After

... Yeah that doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, and I do know from reading a bit that there is supposedly no 'good' ending on the PC version. But even playing the first few moments of this has me planning to play it later.

The kissing at the start is quite erotic, and that's great, but the art seems less polished than in Clannad, and Tomoyo is acting like some shy delicate thing and that feels about as right as the moon being underwater... Also the bgm has the dango song remixed, that really makes me feel awkward, since that's so connected to Nagisa. So yeah, I'm thinking I'll at least put this off. I'll probably come back and fiddle around with it a bit, but for now while I'm in the mood, going to finish up the other Clannad stuff.

Do yourself a favour, just play them... Tomoyo After surprised me a lot. I was never a real fan of Clannad (Common, the main girl looks like a bug...).

Take peoples personal reviews with a grain of salt after all it's just their opinion, and well opinions are like arse holes, we all have them.

Oh, I plan to play things one way or the other. Reviews and such don't dictate how I experience a game, I've dropped games that have been written up as great, and played some really crappily reviewed games.

Though... I totally blame you that I will forever more think about Nagisa looking like a bug. (Still think she's rather cute though, like a weak little puppy type cute.)

This isn't really true. There is also the (might want to cover your ears) all ages version which has an expanded storyline. This version will also get a patch from Doki. Who knows when.

If you can point out the sentence where I tell him to stop reading one VN and pick up another, I'll apologize. What I was trying to convey was that he should read whatever VN he wants based on what he thinks about the game. Not on what anyone else thinks about the game.

Don't assume what I mean, on statements that weren't said, that's an even worse attitude.
