  1. It used to be that I would usually learn about the anime first. Sometimes, when I really liked something and wanted more, I would read the original. Then (in most cases) I would realize the anime (that I thought was great) was terrible. I would think, 'What did they do to this? How could they have turned this work of art into that?' But I do realize that you have to make some sacrifices when adapting something, and there are different limits to what you can do in different forms of media. And given those limitations, I can see that a lot of adaptations are food adaptations, but not as good as the originals. But I do think Kyoto Animation did the adaptations of Kanon and Clannad in the best way possible. I don't think there is any way they could be any better. I still think the visual novels are better, but the animated version are great, and they were able to get each story into it without making too many compromises or confusing the viewer.
  2. I'm an eroge player with ADD, and I was wondering if any of you are. I'd like to talk. I've always been an avid reader, but I get distracted easily. When I'm reading a book (or doing anything else, for that matter), I easily go off on tangents in my mind. I'll read a sentence and it will remind me of something, or make me think, then that thought will lead me to another, and before I know it, it's been half an hour and I'm just staring at the page, or staring off into space. It was even worse when I was reading something in high school that I didn't want to read. But I like books nonetheless, especially how they let you get into the mind of the main character. You can see their thoughts, their motivations, and understand why they do what they do. That's why I prefer light novels to anime. But I especially like to read the ones that have anime adaptations, because I get to read it and see it. And that's why visual novels are perfect for me. They have the novel aspect, where it reads like a book and you can put yourself into the position of the main character, and they have the visual aspect, where you can see the characters (and many have sound as well, which pulls you into the story even more). Also, letting you make the choices puts you into the main character's position even more, but even without that, they're still a more engrossing experience, so they hold my attention better. Is there anyone else here with ADD that shares (or doesn't share) my opinion? Or anyone without ADD that feels the same way?
  3. LOL, I remember that scene where his teacher takes it and he pulls out another one and it keeps happening over and over. Hold on, I'm gonna find it, I'll be right back... ...10 minutes later: I found it, it's season 2 episode 9, about 7:13. I made a gif:
  4. This is exactly how I feel about VNs. I'm a guy, and I'm not anti-porn or anything, but the way I see it, VNs aren't meant to be porn. It's a visual novel, and to me a novel is about the story. And I don't play only all-ages games or skip h-scenes or anything; the h-scenes are entertaining too - there's a reason so many Hollywood movies have sex scenes. Other than Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z that I watched as a kid, the first anime I watched was Kanon (the newer one), when I stumbled across it on a download site and got interested reading the description. I learned about VNs looking at information about it, but I didn't get into VNs right away. I watched Clannad because I liked Kanon, and then I was like, "This is amazing. I want more of this. I'll download the game." Then I played the game and I was like, "This is even better. Instead of just watching Clannad, I get to be in it. Awesome." (BTW, Clannad is my favorite VN and my favorite anime). Visual Novels have the same appeal as books do in that regard - you can put yourself in the place of the main character. When I'm playing VNs for that reason, the plot is the most important part to me. I also like that Visual Novels have the art and voices that books don't, but even if a game has no voices and bad art, if the plot is good I'll still like it. I mostly prefer VNs to anime because you can get into the story more when you can see how the protagonist is thinking and what drives their actions. I also like Light Novels for that reason. I've always been an avid reader, but I get distracted easily (ADD), so visual novels are perfect, because the graphics and sound keep my attention. Oh, right - I was reading this topic and saw boricha's opinion and just started replying. About girls playing eroge - I don't think it's weird at all. I find eroge fun and interesting and I'm glad to find anyone - male or female - that shares my interests. Also, since it's an interest that is mainly shared by men, it's interesting to get a female perspective. All the girls posting in this topic have given me an insight into why they like VNs/eroge. This post got kind of long-winded before I realized it, but, like Ajlez said: This quote deserves to be on the home page.
  5. Clannad, hands down. Favorite VN ever.
  6. ^Yeah, I hate it when the main character is a wimp, and I'm supposed to be him. It's like the makers of the game are mocking me.
  7. What about running in compatibility mode?
  8. Sometimes that can be really disappointing. Especially when it seems like there are clues hinting at a relationship. There are probably a lot that get cut so the game is cheaper or faster to make, or so they can spend more time on other parts. If that's the case, I feel like it's okay. A lot of games get fandiscs when people really want to see a scenario with other characters.
  9. It definitely is a lot like kira kira. Not surprising since it's from the same company and they're both about mostly high school students making a band. If you were looking for a different game from kira kira, you picked the wrong one.
  10. Definitely agree with this. It's ridiculous. "I like you. Let's have sex." - and they do this with characters that you've been slowly building up a relationship with, but then as soon as there are mutual feelings you go straight to sex? I hate when they do this. I agree with the second part as well; too many h-scenes can get in the way of the story. But that doesn't necessarily happen just because there are a lot of h-scenes - it can be done well.
  11. I started playing this because I liked KiraKira, and it's pretty good so far, but I'm less than halfway through the common route part and there have been so many mistakes. The story is still good, and I try not to get hung up on little mistakes here and there, but there are just so many that it's distracting. It's like there was no editing or checking at all. It gets in the way of enjoying a good game. (But I do like this game and will be playing it despite the mistakes). Also, here is a walkthrough I made based on a Japanese walkthrough: Walkthrough You can read it there or download it (there's a button top-right)
  12. Nope, never heard of that one before. I can't remember the name; it was a while ago and I only watched 3 episodes.
  13. I can't stand it when there's so much excessive violence. Any man in his right mind would stop associating with that girl immediately (unless he likes it). Also, IMO, the violence is supposed to stop when she turns dere. She hits him sometimes when she's tsun because she doesn't understand her feelings, but gets past it after she accepts her feelings and grows emotionally. That's how it's supposed to be (IMO). But that's more classic tsundere. A lot of newer shows have characters that are always hitting the main character and never accept their feelings, or if they do, they keep hitting him anyways so they can use the same gags over and over and the show can drag on, so they can make more money. Especially in shows where there are a whole bunch of girls that like the protagonist, why would anyone pick the violent girl that constantly beats him when there are nice, gentle girls that like him too? Violence isn't just restricted to tsundere girls, either. I watched a few episodes of a show where the protagonist was getting beaten every time he turned around by every woman around him and I couldn't stand it so I stopped watching it. Excessive violence against the protagonist always has a negative impression on me. I guess the Japanese market is different, because I feel like that kind of thing wouldn't really work here.
  14. I don't know if she really counts. Tsundere characters are supposed to say they don't like the person they like when they actually do. Hinagiku is Hayate's friend as soon as they meet and she's always nice to him. And she tells Nishizawa that she likes Hayate. Tsundere characters usually deny liking the person they like and never tell anyone until they (sometimes) eventually tell the person they like.
  15. Yeah, they're my favorite group, but they're so slow. I had to wait over three weeks for guilty crown.
  16. I completely agree. There needs to be more to the character than just tsundere. I hate shows where all the characters are superficial, with no depth beyond the characteristics of a standard archetype. Also, personally, I prefer classic tsundere to modern, but that's also because classic tsundere characters sort of require more depth of character as the reason for their tsundere attitude and the change from tsun to dere. I don't dislike modern tsundere, but I dislike that it is used as a character, rather than an aspect of a character. And I hate it when the protagonist gets beat up all the time by every female around him when he doesn't deserve it, but that's kind of a different matter.
  17. I didn't download this game, but it's usually part of the english patch. You should try re-installing it. Or you could just have the disc image mounted whenever you play.
  18. Those are required by law on all games in Japan. Hentai anime, too, but the H-anime of this game was also released in America, uncensored. You can download that version if you want. Ep1 Ep2 But they were made to be censored, so it's not very detailed...
  19. There's a 2-episode hentai ova of this called "Learning the Hard Way" (ANN). You might want to check it out if you liked the game, or before playing the game to see what it's like.
  20. I took Spanish in high school and sometimes the only subs I can find are Spanish, so I watch them and use my limited knowledge of Japanese together with limited knowledge of Spanish to figure out what's going on. But only when I can't find English subs, which happens a lot with older/less popular series with no seeders for the torrents, and dead links for English subbed versions.
  21. I like Doki, but they're so slow recently, I can't really use them for anything but BD releases. They keep dropping shows too. HorribleSubs are super-fast, so I use them for a lot of shows, but often replace shows subbed by them when BDs come out, or a better group finishes a batch. I wait for a lot of shows to finish airing so I can watch them all at once and with good subs; sometimes I wait until BDs come out for the extra episodes. Other groups I like are Commie, UTW, GotWoot, and Eclipse. I prefer it when they use honorifics (-san, -chan, -kun, etc.) and things like Onii-chan because it really does make a difference in the way things come across and can show what kind of relationship they have.

    Period

I highly recommend this game. I've been playing it as the new translation patches came out since I first discovered it over at TLWiki. It has a very good story. Personally, I don't like the art style very much, but the story is good enough that I don't mind it. Just to let you know, every heroine in this game is "hinyuu" - flat, pettanko, no boobs. Also, you may want to wait on this one because the next patch should be out rather soon, and it will be the final (complete) patch for the game. Walkthrough
