Otowa, a city once razed by a devastating earthquake and the resultant fires. A beautiful European cityscape now marks the present, as if it were from a fairy tale; almost as if to mask the memories of that calamity…

Prologue: A beginning of the story “ef – a fairy tale of the two.”

The night before Christmas.A man visited a church in Otowa. He was to fulfill a promise made in the distant past.A woman greeted him.The two of them calmly talked about their bygone days.“Each step of life would be taken together.”“That was what we thought.”“But then…”“Our hands drifted apart, yet they arrived here through unique paths.”What happened in the time they were separated? They were there to find out.The girl said,“It was during this time, one year ago. Those doors opened, and he wandered in from the cold. It was a lone young man.A part of him resembled you… Yes, there was a pining essence within. That may be why I acted the way I did.For a short time, I thought I would involve myself in his fairy tale.”

Chapter 1: Otowa – Winter

Hiro Hirono is not only a full-time student, but also a professional shoujo manga artist. On the night of Christmas Eve, he happened upon two women. The first, Yuuko Amamiya, was a mysterious lady who continued to wait for someone at the church. The other, Miyako Miyamura, was a girl who had her purse stolen and snatched Hiro’s bicycle to pursue the culprit. This winter, Hiro will waver between his artistic dreams and the reality of school.Upon seeing each other again at Otowa Collegiate, Miyako presented Hiro this question: “It’s all too much for one person. Can’t you just run away from it all?”He will be charmed by the free-spirited Miyako, who is bound by nothing. However, there is yet another girl with her eyes on him: Kei Shindou, whom he thinks of as a sister and a childhood friend. This driven and confident girl, a starter of the basketball team despite her short stature, will try to show Hiro another path. These students will coalesce within this idyllic school life.Their relationships will be taken a step further, yet what has tied them together is about to become hopelessly tangled. The choice between dreams and reality…His heart torn between two girls…Hiro must find a single solution for these two conflicts.Chapter 2: Otowa – Summer

Half a year after the events of the first chapter, the passage of time brings both new relationships and the birth of a new tale. The girl who became hurt by the events at the conclusion of winter met a young man named Kyousuke Tsutsumi.A cameraman in the film club, he was usually rather aloof, but the objective view passing through his lens didn’t overlook a fairy tale that hadn’t quite seen its finale.Hiro Hirono had grown since the first chapter, and Yuuko Amamiya was still waiting. While watching over everyone, she took it upon herself to take action once more.

Compared with ef lite, how is the quality? I know this only ends at chapter 2, but ef lite seems to be only 2.16 gb, it's not much larger compared to this one. I haven't finished downloading ef lite, will I be missing anything if I play that one? Which is better, playing the first and second tales (to be released) or ef lite?

This was discussed to death already. Basically there is nothing wrong with Ef Lite, there may be some trolling in the translation but it's really minor (you may not even notice most it). You can play MG's First Tale, which is without the minor trolling, but the quality is probably the same as the NNL one. Only problem is that you'll need to wait for the Latter Tale to release if you decide to go with the MG version.

If I didn't play it already, I would not wait for the 2nd part to release. If I played the First Tale only it would kinda feel like a demo.

Dude you won't missing anything, story, music and event are same the difference is translation

Quality huh? mostly my friend tell me MG is the best quality, but to me is same mangagamer has fail translate in Sandwiched by my wife and her sister, edelweiss.

Which is better? i think this you should decide by yourself. like killerinsidee say "the quality is probably the same as the NNL one".

If you really in haste want to finish this game quickly you should take ef lite, or if you patient guy like the rest us us here you probably take MG version.

is this good looks like it is worth playing

It's only personal opinion, but i'd place "ef" in top5 of best games that got translated so far.

I found later tale part of story much more enjoyable, but it's mostly because of characters. Quality wise the only difference it "professional" translation instead of random memes from time to time and additional troll ending. Mosaics in H-scenes are much more bearable in this one as well - ef has really stunning graphics, and those huge pixels in lite version kinda ruin it.

Doesn't "ef" have more that one main character.

I was under the impression it was like a full picture story were their is no one side to it.

There are 4 couples in game - each chapter focuses on different couple and you play as different male character.

Yea, I thought it wasn't based on one character all the way through.

I'm not to big on that set up.

I believe it also had a anime.

Yes, two animes actually "ef - a tale of memories" shows events from "first tale", while "ef - a tale of melodies" shows events from "later tale". Anime adaptations were very good in itself, with SHAFT studio adding nice touch to it.

I am having a little problem with sound at the moment, it was running fine the first few times but now i have no voice BGM or sound effects. I tried uninstall and re-install but still get nothing. Where is the games saved files stored i want to try deleting that as well before re-installing.

The censoring of Ef wasn't due to MG, that was all minori there. MangaGamer Staff Blog » Blog Archive » A Word About the Upcoming ef Release Read that to find out why minori took that stance.

Yeah, listen to strom here.

Sometimes, studios are paranoid when bringing over titles (They don't wan't legal trouble and all that, plus there's that "all porn is censored-japanese law" too)

Uncensoring is something that is discussed between both the studio and the localizing team, sometimes even negotiated.. (I know it sucks, but that's how it works) luckily, most of the translated VN's are uncensored.

can i ask question? what is the product ID of this game?

You don't need the product ID. The game comes with a crack. Copy the stuff in the crack folder to the main installation folder and run it.

Ef the first tale is the mangagamer release. Things it contains - reduced censorship, a more "official" translation, but it only has the first three chapters

Ef the fairy tale of the two is the full game. If you want to play the full game, you'll have to get this version... this version isn't bad by any means.. just expect censorship regarding h-scenes and some meme sentences, but only a few times.

hmm that doesnt really look bothersome to me, unless it gets worse?

That's about as extreme as it got. Unless you count one of the bad endings where

A willy wonka video came up after you completed the ending.
