I recognize that and I've only seen the .hack//sign anime. Of course, I was interested in the story at one point so I did research it a tiny bit.

I think the writer of that blog is a little off. Why would you learn 2136 Kanji before even touching the grammar or vocabulary? The more different ways you approach the same things, the better you'll remember them. Spitting kanji into your head at the rate of 10 per day without any real knowledge of the words they represent is a prime way to forget half of them by the time you're done with all 2136. Immersion is the best method, and honestly you can start immersing yourself in VNs after less than 1000 kanji, most of the grammar points, and a whole lot of vocabulary. After that you get to play

That's kinda how I feel for every eroge with a particularly helpless heroine. That's why I saved Hanako for last in Katawa Shoujo, for instance.

I was referring more to higher pursuits. I don't give a shit about people's personal lives. I question if people are telling me the truth, but I don't bother to inquire further if it's about something as mundane as personal affairs. I'm talking more about historical events, the truth behind organizations, the science of all sorts of things, the way our world works, why people are the way they are, the way their minds work, etc...

Eh, I just think different from most people where I live. Most of them would rather believe common sense, while I question and try to find the truth about everything.

Not really...I never watched Fate/Stay Night, but it could have easily been made without any ecchi. The same applies to any game that has a strong story without romance as a primary theme.

I play lots of emulator games, I play Minecraft, I'm playing Daggerfall, I play MUDs, I play Dwarf Fortress, I play The Sims 1.

Let's see, I haven't actually played many eroge with childhood friends, but...One, Shuffle, Kanon, Amaane Makai Princess Eris, Minna de Nyan Nyan. They're all codependent or super humble. I'd be more curious to know which games you've played where the childhood friend is independent and has a semi-interesting personality.
