  1. Edit: actually nvm, hopefully you'll just completely change your mind about it after you've finished the whole thing. If not... then I don't even know.
  2. [spoiler=ep6] wooooooo!
  3. MmmMmm yes, absolutely! Looked it up on VNDB before as well. Reeeeally nice to see it getting translated with all those juicy tags it's got... Mystery, horror, mind screw, madness, violence, etc. Yep, it's sweet alright. And it's using NVL (which is a plus for me) even though that tag is only at 1.0 right now. Oh and it's got superb ratings so far. Promising!
  4. That official website for the game sure is pretty awesome looking. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how well they fare with sales and such, considering the removal of 18+ content. And also what they will decide to do later on.
  5. AMAZING! Like what the hell, that's so great and such a big surprise. Just, wow. So happy about this. I mean it's a surprise that it's even getting an official translation, right? But not only that - a release this month as well??? Woooohoooo! The VN (Kono Oozora ni, Tsubasa wo Hirogete) looks very good indeed of course. Always wanted to see it translated ever since I first saw it on VNDB.
  6. Well this is VERY subjective to say the least. No doubt about that. So here's just MY take on it: It's better than Higurashi on many levels, but not all. For one, I find Umineko to be less creepy than Higurashi. And I also personally prefer Hinamizawa to Rokkenjima as a general setting for the story. But like I said, that's very subjective anyway. There might be something more, but those are the only two things that comes to mind for me right now. Everything else? Umineko does better in my opinion. And that's kinda insane, isn't? Because I fucking love Higurashi, but Umineko is still EVEN BETTER. I think it'll be the same for you honestly. Yep. Look forward to it. Look forward to it a lot. Umineko is #1 in terms of VN music, I can assure you. And the voice acting is phenomenal, though you'll only get that with the patches. Character-wise... Umineko has more characters in total than Higurashi and pretty much all of them are really cool/interesting/funny/awesome. I know you liked the characters in Higu a lot, which is good - Umineko will not disappoint at all with its characters, nnnope. Ryukishi knows how to make great characters, as you've seen in Higurashi already. The story? It's terrific. So goddamn thought-provoking. THIS IS HOW A MYSTERY STORY SHOULD BE. And let's not forget everything else the story's got to it... though I shouldn't really say more about that to be honest. You can very much look forward to it anyway. Umineko is epic... guess I'll end it with that. Considering what you thought of Higurashi in the end, I think you will love Umineko as well.
  7. NOOOOooooooooo! Haven't read any of these yet either! Shame on me. My guess is that I'd vote for S;G though if I had read all of these. Perhaps Clannad... but no, S;G is more my kind of VN. Really like the menu music for Nocturnal Illusion also (and I bet the VN as a whole is great of course).
  8. Woo, that's awesome that you liked it so much, really nice to see. And I'm glad you got to experience most of it in the best possible format - the VN series. Just like me! Here's a present! (the spoiler box in that post) ... just some Higurashi related stuff in there, hehe.
  9. Happy Birthday Chex!

  10. [spoiler=EP5]Fuck yea, Kuroneko screen time and an overall entertaining and interesting episode (probably the best one so far, yes). That date early on was fun and seeing more of Kuroneko/Shironeko was veeeeery sweet indeed.
  11. REALLY wondering what this is now... Anyway, nice progress and all (except for Baldr Sky :S). Grisaia getting done soon enough of course, which is just great, though I personally won't be reading it on release most likely anyway.
  12. Cooooool! Yes it's really good isn't it?? But yes it's actually a bit of a shame that you got "spoiled" by the anime on the first 2.5 arcs. Oh well, you still have a lot left to go. Many surprises await. Are you heavily attached to the characters yet? I hope so, 'cause they're awesome. The mysteries are still unsolved... [spoiler=Higurashi arcs 1-4] The Great Hinamizawan Disaster ("GHD")... Why did Keiichi survive the GHD?... Oyashiro-sama... The yearly murders... "Demon eyes"... People being dead and yet somehow still walking... Creepy behaviours (Rena, etc.)... "Flap flap flap", the sense of something being behind you... Rika's premonitions of the murders every year as well as her own death... More than one Keiichi?... The death of Tomitake... The scratching of throats... "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry"... The Sonozaki... Rika's mischievous looking face that she sometime showed infront of Akasaka Mamoru... The jumping sound that only Shion and Tomitake heard inside the shrine storage (arc 2)... What's the syringe all about? (Mion in arc 1, and according to Ooishi, Rika carried a broken one in arc 2 as well)... What happened to Satoshi?... The stabbing of Keiichi in arc 2... The mystery surrounding Keiichi's murder of Houjou Teppei in arc 3... AND MORE! What the hell is going on in Hinamizawa!?! I suggest you give it some proper thinking if you haven't already. Make as many theories as you can. That's what Ryukishi wants you to do (yes)! It's fun! ENJOY! Here comes the epic 5-8 answer arcs.
  13. Good luck. Enjoy the peaceful rural village life in Hinamizawa......
  14. Very well then...

Well you can use whatever pace you want of course. Reading only during nighttime certainly makes it better though (for the early arcs specifically), but you could technically read it whenever you've got the time. It's up to you.

  15. Which is why the game comes with that setting ("Call Menu") already chosen in my pack. For every single arc. Yes, that's right. That's the reason the BGI.gdb file exists in all of those arc folders already when you unpack the game. Because I put it on "Call Menu" in the config screen for all of them. But since you messed with the unlocks and had to delete the BGI.gdb to reset them, that setting also got reset of course for 1-4. Default = hide textbox on right click *shrug*. Whatever the case, normally it won't be a problem because normally you won't have to delete the BGI.gdb. :p

Hehe... It's okay to take it slow in Hinamizawa. Might as well enjoy those peaceful days.

  16. [spoiler=Umineko EP4]Gotta love these high res CGs... http://i.imgur.com/FOKvj2x.jpg
  17. From Higurashi: The frog in the well was happy. Because he wasn't interested in the outside world. The frog in the well was happy. Because he didn't have anything to do with the outside world. And you were happy too. Because you didn't know what happened outside the well.
  18. Nice that you liked Sharin a lot. So, gonna read the fandisc next then? Houzuki's route? You REALLY should, unless you need some kind of mental break now or something, that is.
  19. Easy choice for me (Higurashi Kai). Nipa-★
  20. For Higurashi, might I suggest that you use this: Higurashi - When They Cry COMPLETE All arcs (1-8), all patches, working. Fully updated as of - 20th of February 2013. part 1 - part 2 - part 3 - part 4 - part 5 - part 6 Check the readme. EDIT: Translation Patches - Tweaking Higurashi Wiki was fairly recently added to the Higurashi tweak site. I personally do not know how good/bad this patch is right now. Supposedly it fixes some grammar and spelling of the MangaGamer translation for the first 1-4 arcs of Higurashi. This patch is currently not in my pack of the game, so if you want to download and use it you can do so with that link. To use it: Extract all of the files to the arc 1-4 game folder. ^ A complete pack of Higurashi I put together! With that you don't need to worry about what patches to use and not use. You get all arcs (1-8) of the game with as many patches applied as possible while keeping it as stable as possible. A small "fix" or two was also made. THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT! If you want to read Higurashi with patches, that is. That said, to answer your question, check this: Sprite and BG Patches - Tweaking Higurashi Wiki As you can see there is one graphical patch each for arcs 1-4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. And yes my suggestion is that you read Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. It's fucking awesome. So is the next part of the When They Cry series - Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Read these VNs! Saya no Uta is a great horror VN. A short one at that. Very atmospheric with awesome music and unique characters. Very good indeed. 999 can be a bit 'worrying' at times as well. Great atmosphere and music, intriguing mystery, nice cast of characters. Written by the same guy (Kotaro Uchikoshi) behind Ever17 - which is an amazing mystery VN that you oughta look into as well. 999 is an NDS VN though so you'll either need to own a real Nintendo DS, or, use an emulator + rom of the game.
  21. Yea don't worry, it's a great VN. A very long one (a plus for me at least). You may not like all of its parts, but overall it's still one of the better VNs you can get your hands on I'd say. It has Kotomine Kirei and Illya, so what the fuck.
  22. [spoiler=EP4]Whelp, nothing amazing or anything in EP4. But 'tis alright. Cute/funny at times. Once again not enough Kuroneko!
  23. No, you shouldn't. You have what's needed (the latest dx9 version). So the problem is unrelated to directx.
  24. That's because the game is only interested in dx9 and what version of it that you've got. It uses dx9 to run (which is the case for quite a lot of games tbh). It doesn't utilize dx11 in any way. And yes, you've got what's necessary on that front, so that's not the problem in any case.
