New VN localization company: MoeNovel

*Reach a wider audience*..........the first thing that came up in my head when I saw that was EA lol.

And it is indeed a bad idea, 70%-80% of VN readers want H - scenes, some to fap, other because "It deepens the bond between MC and heroine", others just because of the feeling that *something is missing*.

They should have studied MG all-ages sales numbers before taking this step.

My opinion: This is going to blow on their faces.......hard. And fan patch will be made.....probably.

Romance. But I don't think they will remove the bath scene just the H? Like I'm not sure but they wouldn't have to sell it as 18+ if it's just some breast showing, I'm pretty sure.

But about the removal of the H I think it makes some sense if they are trying to draw new people in even at the cost of some the already existing buyers which is fine specially if someone later is just gonna make a patch to add them back in.

Does this mean that those angry birds people will throw a bomb on the companies office?

no?

Well American's are also lazy so I don't think they will take the time or effort to do that.

we maybe but we still have the time to tell people like you to go fuck themselves :D

i give them one year to fail or succeed ....most likely they will fail for a while , then realize that white-knighting a VN isn't such a good idea afterall

since manginas dont play VNs

I'm just thinking what is the wider audience kind they are thinking cause IMO the age range of the people playing vn is 16 maybe lowest and up to 35 or higher is the highest, kids at 12 years old IMO is not that fond of vn because what they want is action and adventure only those who are old enough are reading visual novel it's like kids reads books with pictures adults reads novel with deep plot

I've had an eye out for this game for awhile, honestly I'm not worried that much.Eventually someone will make a patch for it probably (if killerinside is serious it would be soon I guess). I'm more concerned if they will translate the FD, 'cause likely it would be dependent on the sales of the original. But yeah..

I'm curious if they decide to translate a nukige and make it all-ages.. The first example that popped in my head was Taimanin Asagi 3 and for some reason I laughed waaaay too much at that, because I doubt there would be even 10 minutes of a game if that's the case. xD

There's plenty of college-age people out there that watch anime and read manga yet spurn VNs. This could be due to the misconception that a work that contains porn cannot have literary or artistic merit. It could also be that they simply have a knee-jerk moralistic reaction: porn = no deal. I do believe this "wider audience" exists, but it's unlikely MoeNovel will reach it because they're not marketing the game. Without marketing, only the existing customer base will have interest in their release, and the existing customer base prefers titles with ero and hates censorship.

This is hilarious. Just yesterday people didn't know this VN was going to be translated, so I imagine it would have been a pleasant surprise for people who have heard of this VN or maybe even had a slight interest. I understand somewhat the cause of concern from some people regarding censorship and whatnot, but most of you guys here don't even buy VNs. What makes you think you have a say in the market if all you do is pirate it? Anyways, I can definitely see them translating the 18+ version if the all ages version doesn't work out to well. It's not like they'd have THAT much left to translate. Wheelchair heroine. Enough said.

And you could always download the 18+ version to play along side it. They're also selling this at a very cheap price. $30-35 for a 30-50 hour VN? It might not have h-scenes, but that's a damn good deal. It's about the cost of Boob Wars.. I mean.. just think about that.

What you're saying is pretty much that you shouldn't listen to someone who smokes when he tells you not to smoke when in truth that's the person you should be listening to because he knows all the shit that smoking gets you through. Not everybody is a pirate and those who are, not always are because they want to, some people simply don't have the money to buy every new game they wanna play that gets released.

Also, pirates or not, most of us here have at least some understanding of visual novels and what works and what doesn't.We already know from experience that all-ages VNs don't sell nearly as much as 18+ VNs and that the more sex there is included, the more it'll sell.Ef is full of drama and little porn and it sold less than stuff like Boob Wars.

These guys are coming in here thinking they're releasing a game "for everyone" when in truth the only people who would pay for it are the VN fans and those same people won't buy the game if the 18+ content is removed. They ignored MangaGamer's advice and they will definetly pay the price for it.

In my opnion the whole fuss isn't as much about the game not having 18+ content as it is about it having content removed. If this game was all ages from the get go people woud have been happy about it being translated and about how the market was expanding, but the fact that we're having scenes removed and content changed means we'll no longer have the original product, it means we'll have a different game in our hands.

At the end of the day though I guess we should wait and see how this plays out. These guys said they did something that perks up the player "imagination" with scenes and bla bla bla but I can't help but think it won't go as they want. They'll suffer from this for sure.

Well, supposedly this is the CG the game has, and you can see how much they will be cutting out by making it 'all-ages':

Non-H: 463 (includes swimsuits, wet t-shirt with bra showing through, scene where it looks like a girl has nopan)

Ero: 646 (includes CGs that are part of H scenes and bath scenes with visible nipples)

SD: 110 (chibi characters)

AN ENGLISH RELEASE?!

Good news. For now.

About that "SweetLovePatch" from the picture:

I downloaded this game a while ago and the download included the game dvd and a cd called "Sweet Love Append Disc," which is a disc that adds extra scenes (シーン追加パッチ). As far as I can tell, it was given as a reward for pre-ordering or something like that (予約特典). I don't know the nature of those extra scenes (could be H, could be something else).

well, i kinda agree with them to make an all ages VN = to reach wider audience (people who're just know only manga and anime)

but it a double edge sword method, most of the VN reader (including myself), hate the fact that the h-scenes are removed, but heck.. i'll prolly just going to pirate this, nothing that i can say much..

Thank you for your interest in our game. I am sorry to say that the game does not have any sex scenes. Explicit content has been removed, but original content still remain.

The game has been rated Teen and above by ESRB, and has been given a 12 rating by PEGI.

There are no visible body parts, by the game still possesses love content. There are kissing scenes and kissing sounds, but there is no actual animation showing that.

The player can use their imagination in beach scenes, bedroom scenes, and bathroom scenes. There are implied and hinted meanings, where the player can make use of their imagination. There are beach scenes and bathroom scenes where the female characters will sport bikini wear, and have their body covered by water, or by towels. There will also be scenes where the female characters will be scantily clad.

Thank you for supporting our game, I hope you will find our game interesting.

Kind Regards,

Moenovel support staff]. Who else can spot the contradiction in this statement? If "explicit content" was part of the "original content" in the game, if any images that featured 'visible body parts', let alone those that were part of kissing scenes, have been removed, then I'm sorry but the original content does not in fact remain.

I know what they are trying to say, the game itself beyond these changes remains largely intact and the overall plot is (perhaps) left unaltered but when censorship of content and removal of scenes has been acknowledged as occurring even stating the overall plot is largely unaltered does not mean the 'original content' remains.

Hirameki has been brought up by others, and I agree it should be, as an example and a warning to this company. In some of Hirmakei's releases the remove of 'explicit content' was so obvious, regardless of how critical those scenes were or were not to the plot, it was laughable and created moments of such sudden massive polar shifts in character relationships that it is hard for me to tell if some of those games, other than Hourglass of Summer which I actually liked, were suppose to be as funny as they ended up.

A major problem in this case is, at this time we don't know the entirety of what they consider 'explicit content' which has been removed or the full extent of what language is being changed, beyond what is necessary in translations, in order to open If my Heart had Wings to a 'wider audience'.

In the end, my fear is likely the same as many others here, no matter how good a game If my Heart had Wings truly is and how little the h-scenes mean to the overall plot, by removing them and whatever other material such as kissing scenes which have been deemed 'explicit content', this game might become a shadow of it's true self.

To me it is a mystery why (if they didn't consider it) there was no consideration given to releasing an H-Version and a non-H-Version at the same time. They would already have the translation for most of the game when doing a non-h version and indications are they have the h-scenes available to them, so what is a few more scenes added back and a bit of dialogue changed but most importantly how much more could it truly cost them, particularly if the h-version can be sold as print on demand?

I for one always believe the market can use one more company releasing these games, but I am truly not sure this is the best move for them to get even a toehold in the market or garner massive support. In the end, I truly hope they succeed and start releasing both quality h-games and all ages games, but if they are going to do all ages, focus on games like Little Busters which didn't original have h-scenes from the start.

I read something interesting in VNDB today about the "why not having both H and non-H version release" topic.

Exactly as you said. You either sell a 'normal' game or you sell a 'porn game'. You can't have both.

Basically, there is no way we will ever see an 18+ VN from them. Period. They better hope they don't fuck up their censoring attempt to get a lower rating to reach a 'wider audience', or that will haunt them. Still don't understand why they just didn't go with a VN that is already made for the all-ages category, instead of doing this? And I still don't know what 'wider audience' they hope to reach with basically zero real attempts at even marketing the damn VN.

Well, I will be taking a 'wait and see' approach to them. Will I buy it? Maybe, if they don't fuck up their censoring attempt. Just to actually read the VN since it would be my only way to actually read it in the first place. But their attempt at lowering the age rating to what it is doesn't leave me much hope. Wait and see... Wait and see...

Well i don't like censorship of any kind but there's nothing we can do about it but just not buy the game if it has bad sales theyll have to listen to customers or at least we'll have to create a big enough stink. We shouldn't give up on this company the more localization companies the better.

The problem is, with this company, is that if you read the link Gerard posted then it pretty much states that they will never release a complete 18+ game. They don't want the 'porn' stigma attached to their company. So yeah, if they decide to translate another previous 18+ title that doesn't have an all ages equivalent, guess what? They will censor it. Not buying it won't matter, they still won't localize an 18+ game. It is either sink or swim with them censoring 18+ titles to conform to a lower age rating, or they need to just completely only translate titles that have an equivalent all ages rating VN already made for that title.

Interestingly, the game seems to be gathering hype on Play-Asia.

It's currently #2 in PC sales, right below Dark Souls.
