By the same token, Saya no Uta would probably be a bit too much for the first time reader as well. Guessing a number of people would be turned off by some of the things in there. I first interpreted this as a "one and only one VN", so looking back KS is probably the better choice.

I guess Clannad, because of the heavy theme of family and friends. Themes learned in the After Story will give a lot of people a different type of perspective in life perhaps.
