I'm surprised too! Yea, really. Knew it was gonna be good because hey, it's a mystery VN. But this much? No, actually didn't expect that. I'd like to say that it's simply because of Hinamizawa (love it), but there are so many other reasons too. The setting certainly is a very big reason though, yes. The setting and all the characters in it. It was special to me from the very beginning, in arc 1... and well, it just kept going from there.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai (arcs 5-8). And of course as a result of that - all of Higurashi. There was nothing that I didn't like about it. Nope. Can't think of a single thing. That should tell you how much I loved it in the end. I'll be honest and say that I did not think Kai would actually hold my attention quite as much as Ni (arcs 1-4), but it did. It was better. It was a perfect finale for an exceedingly entertaining and memorable story. The songs and sound effects in Kai are better than the ones in Ni, and yes, that does matter a lot. Many, just like everyone else here... Though if we were to be specific about it, then all the VNs that are focused on mystery in some way. The ones that forces you to think and worry about what's really going on. You know what I mean. One example is Root Double -Before Crime * After Days- - I want this one BADLY. Then there's the Innocent Grey titles - Haven't even read KnS1 yet, but they all look great and I'd love to see them getting translated. You might as well go with this version, yes. It's totally fine, really. And yea MG will release the latter tale eventually as far as I know, but there's almost no reason at all to wait for it if you feel like reading Ef right now.

It had some random comedy nonsense going on as well, sure (tanks and helicopters and shikigami and...), but I for one did not expect all of that intriguing backstory information and such. Yea, that's true... Well I for one do love everything so far in Higurashi, that's for sure. ^^ It fits my preferences perfectly more or less. But as for Ni VS Kai - it'll depend on arc 7 and 8 I suppose. Still reading it! The music in Kai is better anyway in general, but the arcs in Ni are certainly very excellent (2+3 especially), soooo... we'll see how 7 and 8 stacks up to the rest.

Could it be that you played a similar character in Oblivion and Morrowind as well? Just curious, since that's what I've been doing. Thief/Assassin in all three games, doing mainly the Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood storylines since they're always really great, pretty much. That said, I think I enjoyed them a bit more in Oblivion. Skyrim had Cicero though, and I'm a big fan of evil clowns and other similar things... Neeever did the main quests. Nope. Not in any of the three games.
